Dubai World Cup 2024: Sheikh Mohammed Attends Iconic 29th Edition at Meydan

His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, the Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and the Ruler of Dubai, attended the 29th edition of the Dubai World Cup at the famous Meydan Racecourse today. This event is one of the biggest and most exciting horse races in the world.

Sheikh Mohammed was joined by his sons, His Highness Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, the Crown Prince of Dubai, and His Highness Sheikh Maktoum bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, the First Deputy Ruler of Dubai. Both of them are essential leaders in the UAE government.

During the event, Sheikh Mohammed spoke about how the Dubai World Cup has grown since it first started in 1996. He said that the race has helped show the world the UAE’s strong position in sports, especially in horse racing. He also praised the event for bringing people together from different countries, making it a global celebration of sport.

“Sheikh Mohammed said, “We are very proud of the Dubai World Cup because it’s not just about the prize money or the competition. It’s a place where people from different cultures come together, and it shows how sport can unite nations. Horse racing is part of our history, and it connects our past with the future we are building.”

The Winner of the Main Race

The highlight of the day was the main race, where the horse named Hit Show took home the trophy. The race was 2000 meters long on a dirt track and had a prize of $12 million, sponsored by Emirates Airline. The winning horse was ridden by jockey Florent Geroux, trained by Brad Cox, and owned by Wathnan Racing.

A Global Event with Top Horses

The 29th Dubai World Cup was truly special because it featured some of the best horses from around the world. 102 horses from 13 different countries competed in nine exciting races, with a total prize money of $30.5 million, including the huge prize for the final race.

  • Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum

Other guests included top horse owners, breeders, and racing fans from all over the world.

A Glimpse into History

The Dubai World Cup started in 1996 at Nad Al Sheba Racecourse. It was part of Sheikh Mohammed’s vision to make Dubai a major center for international sports. Over the years, it has grown into one of the most prestigious horse racing events globally, attracting the best in the sport.

This year’s event showed once again how Dubai continues to shine as a global hub for sports and culture.
