Dubai’s taxi industry has seen exciting growth in the first half of 2025. Compared to the same period in 2024, the number of taxi trips and passengers has increased steadily. This growth shows how much people trust and use taxis in Dubai for their daily travel.
Important Growth Numbers From Dubai’s Taxi Industry
Adel Shakri, who is the Director of Planning and Business Development at the Public Transport Agency under Dubai’s Roads and Transport Authority (RTA), shared some important details. He said that the taxi sector is growing steadily and playing a vital role in Dubai’s transport system.

According to him, the total number of taxi trips in the first half of 2025 reached 59.5 million. This is an increase from 55.7 million trips recorded in the first half of 2024. This growth of 7% in trips shows that more people are choosing taxis for getting around Dubai.
Along with more trips, the number of passengers carried by taxis also increased. In the first six months of 2025, 103.5 million passengers used taxis, compared to 97 million passengers in the same period of 2024. This rise means that taxis are becoming more popular and are serving more people.
Hala Taxi’s Increasing Market Share
One of the biggest players in Dubai’s taxi sector is Hala Taxi. Hala Taxi is a service offered by the RTA that allows passengers to book taxis through an app, making it very convenient.
The market share of Hala Taxi grew from 40.3% in the first half of 2024 to 41.3% in the first half of 2025. This means that out of all the taxi trips in Dubai, over 41% were made using Hala Taxi services in 2025. This is a 2.5% increase in their share, showing that more people prefer this app-based taxi option.
More Drivers, Better Services
Alongside the rise in trips and passengers, the number of taxi drivers also increased. In 2024, there were about 13,000 active drivers working in Dubai’s taxi sector. This number grew to nearly 14,000 in the first half of 2025.
This rise in drivers helps reduce waiting times for passengers. More drivers mean taxis are available faster and more often, which is good for customers and helps keep the system efficient.
Record Growth In E-Hailing and Vehicle Rentals
The taxi sector didn’t just grow in regular trips. Services like e-hailing (where passengers book taxis online or through apps), hourly vehicle rental, and Hala Taxi have also recorded record growth in this period.
E-hailing is becoming more popular because it offers quick booking, easy payments, and reliable rides. Hourly vehicle rental means people can rent cars for short periods, which is useful for those who want to drive themselves but for limited time.
Faster Taxi Arrival Times
Service efficiency is improving in Dubai’s taxi sector. Adel Shakri pointed out that in the first half of 2024, about 70% of Hala Taxi trips had an estimated vehicle arrival time of less than four minutes.
In the first half of 2025, this improved further. Around 74% of Hala Taxi trips had an estimated arrival time of under 3.5 minutes. This means passengers wait less time to get their taxis, making the service faster and more reliable.
What This Growth Means For Dubai
This growth in the taxi sector is a sign of Dubai’s strong and growing economy. More taxi trips and passengers show that Dubai is a busy city with lots of people moving around for work, tourism, and daily life.
The increase in drivers and faster service times also reflect Dubai’s efforts to improve public transport. The Roads and Transport Authority is working hard to make taxis a safe, fast, and easy way for people to travel.
Dubai’s position as a global destination for investment and tourism is supported by such improvements in transport. When people can move around easily and quickly, it helps businesses and visitors feel comfortable and welcome.
What’s Next For Dubai’s Taxi Sector?
With this positive growth, Dubai’s taxi sector is expected to keep improving. More technology, like better apps and online services, may make booking taxis easier.
The increase in drivers means that more jobs are being created in the transport industry, helping the economy grow. Faster taxi arrivals make using taxis more convenient, encouraging even more people to use this service instead of driving their own cars.
All these factors together make Dubai’s taxi sector a key part of the city’s overall transport system. It helps reduce traffic, cuts down pollution, and supports a smooth travel experience for residents and visitors alike.
To sum up, Dubai’s taxi sector has grown by 7% in the first half of 2025 compared to the same time last year. The total taxi trips reached 59.5 million, and passengers rose to 103.5 million. Hala Taxi, a popular app-based taxi service, increased its market share to 41.3%. The number of taxi drivers also went up to nearly 14,000, helping reduce waiting times.
Services like e-hailing and hourly vehicle rentals showed strong growth. The taxi arrival times got faster too, with most taxis arriving in under 3.5 minutes.
All these improvements show Dubai’s growing economy and the city’s commitment to better transport services. This makes Dubai a more attractive place to live, work, and visit.
