The Dubai Sports Council (DSC) has announced a new tournament called the "Open Padel Cup for Government Institutions." This event will be held in partnership with the Just Padel Club at their courts in the Port Rashid area from December 13 to 15, 2024.

Padel, a sport that has become very popular in the UAE, is growing fast. The DSC wants to give Emirati workers in the government a chance to play and show their talent.

The details of the tournament were shared at a press event. Important people from the sports world were there, including Fawzia Faridoun, who is in charge of community sports at the Dubai Sports Council, and Anwar Idrissi, the director of the Just Padel Club. Also at the event were Ann Jiao, CEO of Royal Griffin (one of the sponsors), and Henry Chan from Cook One Company (another sponsor). Former French footballer Ibrahim Bah and Argentine padel player Adrian Eduardo Fernandez also attended.

Fawzia Faridoun said, "We are happy to work with the Just Padel Club to hold this tournament. It is a great addition to the sports events in Dubai. This tournament shows how the public and private sectors can work together."

She also mentioned how padel is growing fast in Dubai, with many people of all ages getting interested in it. Dubai has already held major padel events like the World Team Championship, Masters Championships, and the Premier Dubai Padel 1 Championship, where top players from around the world competed.

Anwar Idrissi, the director of Just Padel Club, announced that registration for the tournament has started. Government institutions across the UAE can sign up. Each team can have eight male Emirati players, with six playing in the match and two as backups. To keep it fair, professional players are not allowed to join the tournament.

The tournament will use a knockout system, where teams compete until only one remains. The winners will get AED 30,000, and the runners-up will get AED 20,000.

Henry Chan from Cook One Company shared his excitement about sponsoring the event. "We are happy to support this tournament and help discover Emirati talent," he said. "Dubai is growing in sports, tourism, and business, and we want to be part of it. Sports are important for the development of society."

Chan also talked about how Padel is becoming more popular. "Padel is growing fast in the UAE, and it could even become an Olympic sport in the future," he said.

Ann Jiao, CEO of Royal Griffin, thanked everyone for their support. "We are glad to work with the Dubai Sports Council and Just Padel Club to make this tournament happen," she said.

As the tournament gets closer, excitement is building. This event will give Emirati players a chance to compete and enjoy the sport of padel.
