Famous Islamic preacher Dr Zakir Naik has recently addressed and dismissed rumours circulating widely on social media that claimed he was diagnosed with Acquired Immunodeficiency Syndrome (AIDS). These claims quickly gained attention online, sparking concern among his followers and drawing media attention. However, Dr Zakir Naik and his legal team have strongly rejected these allegations, clarifying that there is no truth to them.
Lawyer Calls Rumours False and Malicious
Speaking through his lawyer, Akberdin Abdul Kadir, Dr Zakir Naik labelled the claims as completely baseless. The lawyer described the rumours as “rubbish” and “fake news,” emphasizing that the preacher’s health is not compromised in any way. According to Akberdin, these allegations were entirely fabricated and spread maliciously to harm Dr Zakir Naik’s reputation.

The lawyer also confirmed to local media portal Malaysiakini that the claims about Dr Zakir being treated for AIDS in a private hospital in the Klang Valley were entirely false. Akberdin strongly condemned the individuals behind the rumours, calling their actions irresponsible and damaging.
Allegations Targeting Popular Preacher
The false rumours reportedly suggested that Dr Zakir Naik was undergoing medical treatment for AIDS. Such claims were likely circulated due to his widespread influence and popularity among Muslims in Malaysia and around the world. Akberdin stated that these allegations are a deliberate attempt to smear the reputation of the preacher, who is known for his global lectures on Islam and comparative religion.
He further mentioned that Dr Zakir Naik is in good health, and there is no medical basis for the claims. The lawyer revealed that steps are being taken to identify the people responsible for spreading these false rumours, and appropriate legal action may follow once the individuals are traced.
Dr Zakir Naik’s Background
Dr Zakir Naik, an Indian national with permanent residency in Malaysia, is the founder of the Islamic Research Foundation (IRF). Before pursuing Islamic preaching full-time, he was initially trained as a medical doctor. He left his medical career in 1991 to dedicate himself to Islamic preaching and public lectures.
Over the years, Dr Zakir Naik has become one of the most recognized Islamic preachers in the world. He is especially popular in English-speaking countries and among Muslims in South Asia and Southeast Asia. His lectures often focus on comparative religion, and he is known for debating religious topics publicly.
Legal and Social Controversies
Dr Zakir Naik has faced legal and social controversies over the years, both in India and Malaysia. In India, he has been under investigation due to various legal issues, prompting him to take up residence in Malaysia. His presence in Malaysia has triggered both support from followers and criticism from opponents.
In 2019, Dr Zakir Naik faced significant backlash after making remarks about Chinese Malaysians and Indian Malaysians. He referred to Chinese Malaysians as “guests” and questioned the political loyalty of Indian Malaysians. These statements resulted in more than 100 police reports being filed against him and a temporary ban on his public speaking engagements in Malaysia.
Despite these controversies, Dr Zakir Naik continues to be a widely followed public figure. His lectures and debates are viewed by thousands of people online, and he maintains a strong following in Malaysia, India, and many other countries. However, several countries have banned him from entry due to concerns over his speeches and rhetoric.
Preacher’s Current Status
According to his lawyer, Dr Zakir Naik is in good health. Akberdin stated that the preacher continues to engage with his religious and social work and is not undergoing any treatment for AIDS or any other serious illness. He clarified that the rumours are completely false and should not be believed.
Akberdin also confirmed that legal measures are being considered to identify and take action against those responsible for spreading the false information. The lawyer emphasized that the claims have no factual basis and are purely malicious attempts to tarnish Dr Zakir Naik’s reputation.
Social Media and False Rumours
The recent incident highlights how rumours can spread quickly on social media platforms, especially about high-profile personalities. In this case, the claims about Dr Zakir Naik’s health were not only false but also harmful, leading to unnecessary panic and speculation.
Experts and legal advisors often warn about the dangers of sharing unverified information online. False rumours can damage reputations, affect mental health, and sometimes lead to legal consequences. The case of Dr Zakir Naik serves as an example of how social media misinformation can target influential figures and create confusion among the public.
Dr Zakir Naik has categorically denied all rumours about being diagnosed with AIDS, and his lawyer has confirmed that these claims are baseless and fabricated. The preacher remains in good health and continues his religious and social activities in Malaysia. Legal action is being considered to hold those spreading false information accountable.
Followers and the public are urged to verify news from reliable sources before sharing it on social media. Dr Zakir Naik’s case underscores the importance of responsible reporting and the dangers of false rumours in today’s digital world.
