The United Arab Emirates (UAE) has taken another important step in strengthening its international partnerships. A high-level UAE delegation, led by Omar Shehadeh, Envoy of the Minister of Foreign Affairs to the Caribbean and Pacific States, recently visited the Republic of Fiji. The purpose of this official trip was to explore ways of building stronger ties and deeper cooperation between the two nations.
The discussions during this visit covered a wide range of areas, including the economy, digital transformation, education, youth, sports, and regional cooperation. Both sides agreed that there is great potential to expand relations in these fields and to create opportunities that will benefit people in both countries.
During the meetings with senior Fijian officials, the UAE delegation highlighted how important it is to work together on pressing global challenges such as climate change and economic diversification. These topics hold particular importance for small island nations like Fiji, which face rising sea levels and the need for resilient economies, and for the UAE, which is leading global dialogues on sustainability and renewable energy.
Omar Shehadeh reaffirmed the UAE’s commitment to growing its partnership with Fiji. He praised the long-standing relations between the two countries and stressed the UAE’s dedication to working closely with Pacific Island nations to achieve common goals.

For their part, Fijian leaders warmly welcomed the UAE delegation. Manoa Kamikamica, Fiji’s Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Trade, Cooperatives, Small and Medium Enterprises, and Communications, said that Fiji is keen to deepen its strategic partnerships with the UAE. He noted that both countries can work together in sectors like investment, tourism, education, healthcare, youth empowerment, and sports development. He also underlined how such cooperation would play a strong role in promoting sustainable development and building stronger ties.
This visit reflects the UAE’s broader vision of enhancing cooperation with Caribbean and Pacific states. The UAE has been increasing its engagement with these regions, not only to strengthen political ties but also to promote shared development, prosperity, and global sustainability efforts. By supporting small island nations, the UAE is demonstrating leadership in helping countries adapt to climate challenges and build more diverse, resilient economies.
For Fiji, closer ties with the UAE mean opportunities for investment, tourism promotion, digital growth, and youth development initiatives. Both sides expressed confidence that this partnership will bring mutual benefits in the years ahead.
The UAE-Fiji dialogue is also part of a larger global trend where countries are building stronger cross-regional connections to face international challenges together. Whether in climate action, education exchange programs, or sports partnerships, the growing relationship between the UAE and Fiji signals a new chapter in cooperation that goes beyond geography.
