On behalf of President His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, His Highness Sheikh Khaled bin Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi, joined the BRICS Leaders Virtual Summit. This important meeting was hosted by Brazilian President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva, who currently holds the presidency of the BRICS group for the year 2025.

The summit brought together a number of global leaders and policymakers who discussed trade, development, and strategies to strengthen cooperation between nations. For the UAE, participation in this gathering was not only symbolic but also practical, showing its commitment to building partnerships that benefit its people and contribute to international stability.

UAE’s Strong Message to the World

Sheikh Khaled addressed the summit on behalf of the UAE leadership. In his remarks, he began by conveying warm greetings from President Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan to the leaders and participants. He extended sincere wishes for the success of the meeting and the prosperity of all nations represented.

The Crown Prince praised Brazil for its leadership of BRICS since the start of this year. He noted that Brazil has handled its responsibilities with wisdom and dedication, ensuring that BRICS continues to produce results. He also highlighted the positive outcomes of the 17th BRICS Summit, which took place in Rio de Janeiro in July 2025, describing it as an important step forward in strengthening international cooperation.

Sheikh Khaled stressed that BRICS has grown into a powerful framework for joint international action. He said that the organization is not only about cooperation among its members but also about helping the wider world achieve prosperity. For the UAE, this aligns perfectly with its vision of building strong economic and trade ties that support sustainable development.

He explained that the UAE sees partnerships not as temporary arrangements, but as long-term strategies that bring growth, stability, and prosperity to all. By working together, countries can create opportunities, support innovation, and overcome global challenges such as poverty, climate change, and economic instability.

What the Summit Focused On

The BRICS Leaders Virtual Summit was a platform for dialogue between some of the world’s most influential economies. Key areas of discussion included:

1. Strengthening Foreign Trade: Leaders talked about increasing trade flows between member countries and reducing barriers that make it harder to exchange goods and services.

2. Joint Economic Projects: There was strong interest in working together on large-scale projects in sectors such as infrastructure, energy, and digital transformation. These projects can generate jobs, improve technology sharing, and enhance connectivity across regions.

3. Sustainable Growth for Developing Nations: A major topic was how BRICS can support the economies of developing countries. Leaders emphasized that global prosperity must be shared fairly and that emerging economies should be given opportunities to grow.

4. Political Dialogue on Global Economic Issues: Participants recognized that the world faces multiple challenges, including instability in trade systems, fluctuating markets, and global inequality. They agreed that BRICS should serve as a voice for fairness, reform, and balance in global economic governance.

Leaders Who Attended

The summit drew participation from several presidents and senior officials, making it one of the most significant virtual gatherings of the year. Those in attendance included:

* Xi Jinping, President of the People’s Republic of China

* Vladimir Putin, President of the Russian Federation

* Abdel Fattah El-Sisi, President of the Arab Republic of Egypt

* Cyril Ramaphosa, President of the Republic of South Africa

* Dr. Masoud Pezeshkian, President of the Islamic Republic of Iran

* Prabowo Subianto, President of the Republic of Indonesia

* Dr. Subrahmanyam Jaishankar, Minister of External Affairs of India

* Dr. Gedion Timothewos, Minister of Foreign Affairs of Ethiopia

The presence of such high-ranking leaders highlighted the importance of the summit. It also showed that BRICS is no longer limited to its founding members (Brazil, Russia, India, China, and South Africa) but is gradually expanding to include more voices from the Global South.

The Significance of UAE’s Participation

For the UAE, being part of such global dialogues demonstrates its commitment to international cooperation. Over the past years, the country has strengthened its position as a connector between regions, acting as a bridge between East and West.

By taking part in BRICS discussions, the UAE is showcasing its readiness to contribute to shaping the future of global trade and development. It also underlines the nation’s foreign policy approach, which focuses on building partnerships based on mutual respect, economic opportunity, and sustainable development.

The UAE has already built strong ties with many BRICS members through trade, energy cooperation, and investments. Participation in the summit reinforced these ties and opened doors for new projects that could benefit both the UAE and its partners.

What This Means for the Future

The outcomes of this summit will likely shape policies and projects in the coming months. For the UAE, it could mean:

* Expanded Trade Opportunities: More access to BRICS markets, which are some of the fastest-growing in the world.

* New Investments: Collaboration on infrastructure and energy could attract foreign investment into the UAE and allow Emirati companies to participate in major projects abroad.

* Stronger Global Position: By being an active player in global forums, the UAE strengthens its voice in international decision-making.

* Support for Sustainable Development: The UAE’s focus on clean energy, technology, and innovation fits well with BRICS’ push for sustainable growth.

A Step Towards Shared Prosperity

The BRICS Virtual Summit ended with a strong message: countries must work together if they want to create fairer, more stable, and more prosperous societies. For the UAE, the event was an opportunity to showcase its role as a responsible and forward-looking nation.

Sheikh Khaled’s words reminded everyone that true development comes from cooperation, not competition. By joining hands, nations can overcome differences and create a future where growth and opportunity are shared by all.
