At a major international meeting, the United Nations’ top human rights official, Volker Türk, strongly condemned Israel’s actions in Gaza, saying the world cannot ignore the suffering of the Palestinian people. He spoke during the 60th session of the Human Rights Council, warning that the violence and destruction in Gaza have reached an unimaginable level.
Türk said that Israel’s military campaign has led to the mass killing of Palestinian civilians and has destroyed entire neighborhoods, leaving people homeless and starving. According to him, the blockade of aid has prevented lifesaving food, medicine, and other supplies from reaching people who are in desperate need. He added that this situation has created what he described as “a man-made famine.”
The rights chief also mentioned the deaths of journalists, aid workers, and even United Nations staff members who were caught in the violence. He said the repeated targeting of these groups, who are meant to protect and help civilians, is a clear violation of international law. He warned that war crime after war crime is being committed in Gaza, and the suffering is shocking the conscience of the world.
Türk also raised alarm about the language used by some senior Israeli officials. He said the use of “genocidal rhetoric” and the open dehumanization of Palestinians is extremely dangerous. According to him, this kind of speech not only fuels hatred but also encourages more violence.
He criticized the international community for failing to act effectively. Despite many discussions, he said, global powers have not been able to stop the killing or provide real protection for Palestinian civilians. He stressed that humanity cannot afford to stay silent in the face of what he described as ongoing atrocities.

The situation in Gaza has already forced thousands of families to flee their homes, while many others are trapped without food, water, or medical care. Hospitals are struggling to function with very limited resources. International aid groups have repeatedly warned that unless more humanitarian aid is allowed inside Gaza, the civilian population could face an even greater disaster.
Türk’s speech highlighted the urgent need for accountability. He called for investigations into possible war crimes and demanded that all sides respect human rights and humanitarian law. He reminded world leaders that the protection of civilians must always come first, even during conflict.
This statement adds to the growing voices worldwide calling for an immediate end to the suffering in Gaza. Many governments, rights groups, and humanitarian organizations are urging Israel to stop its military operations and allow aid to reach people in need. At the same time, there are calls for the international community to increase pressure and take stronger action to prevent more deaths.
The message from the UN human rights chief is clear: the crisis in Gaza is not only a regional issue but also a test of the world’s commitment to protecting human dignity. If the killings, destruction, and starvation continue unchecked, the consequences will affect not only the Middle East but also the moral standing of the global community.
