A fresh wave of Russian drone strikes targeted Ukraine’s strategic Black Sea port city of Odesa overnight on Monday, leaving at least three people dead and 10 others injured, according to regional officials.
Odesa’s regional governor, Oleh Kiper, confirmed that the city came under a “heavy attack,” with multiple drones hitting residential neighborhoods, critical infrastructure, and administrative buildings. The strikes caused significant destruction across several parts of the city.
Emergency services were deployed immediately, as rescue teams worked through damaged structures and assisted the injured. Authorities reported that vital infrastructure had also been affected, raising concerns about disruptions to essential services.
Strategic Port Under Increasing Pressure
Odesa, Ukraine’s largest port on the Black Sea, plays a crucial role in the country’s economy, particularly in the export of grain and other goods. Its strategic importance has made it a frequent target since the start of the conflict.
As the war enters its fifth year, Russia has intensified its attacks on key logistical hubs, with Odesa facing repeated strikes aimed at weakening Ukraine’s supply chains and maritime operations.
Rising Concerns Amid Escalation
The latest attack highlights a growing escalation in hostilities, with continued strikes on civilian areas and infrastructure. The situation remains tense, as authorities assess the full extent of the damage and the potential impact on regional stability.
Officials have urged residents to remain cautious amid fears of further attacks, while international attention continues to focus on the humanitarian and economic consequences of the ongoing conflict.
