In a remarkable turn of events, Alakh Pandey, the founder of the edtech unicorn PhysicsWallah, has surpassed Bollywood superstar Shah Rukh Khan on the Hurun India Rich List 2025. Pandey’s wealth skyrocketed by 223% to reach ₹14,510 crore, overtaking Shah Rukh Khan’s net worth of ₹12,490 crore.
This milestone reflects the extraordinary rise of the teacher-turned-entrepreneur, who began his journey as a YouTube educator and now leads one of India’s most prominent edtech companies.
SRK Enters Billionaire Club with Blockbuster Year
Shah Rukh Khan, meanwhile, had a landmark financial year, entering the billionaire club for the first time. His net worth surged by 71% in 2025, driven by the success of his production company Red Chillies Entertainment, co-owned with his wife Gauri Khan.

The studio reported a net profit of ₹85 crore in FY23, while SRK’s blockbuster Jawan made waves at the box office, grossing ₹640.25 crore in India and ₹1,160 crore worldwide. Despite this phenomenal success, Khan now finds himself in second place behind Pandey in the latest rich list.
PhysicsWallah’s Rapid Growth and Financial Turnaround
PhysicsWallah’s impressive rise under Pandey’s leadership has been equally dramatic. The company slashed its net losses to ₹243 crore in FY25, down from ₹1,131 crore the previous year. At the same time, revenue surged to ₹2,886 crore from ₹1,940 crore, underscoring the brand’s strong market presence and growing influence in the education sector.
Adding to the momentum, PhysicsWallah has filed updated documents with SEBI for a much-anticipated ₹3,820 crore initial public offering (IPO). The offering includes a fresh issue of ₹3,100 crore and an offer-for-sale (OFS) worth ₹720 crore, with Pandey and co-founder Prateek Maheshwari set to offload shares worth ₹360 crore.
Prominent financial institutions such as Kotak Mahindra Capital, Goldman Sachs (India) Securities, JP Morgan India, and Axis Capital have been appointed to manage the public offering, signaling strong investor interest.
From YouTube Tutor to Billionaire Entrepreneur
Alakh Pandey’s story continues to inspire millions across India. Starting his journey as a YouTube educator in 2016 after dropping out of Harcourt Butler Technical University, he built PhysicsWallah into a leading edtech platform, democratizing access to quality education for students nationwide.
His journey from recording lessons in a modest room to leading a billion-dollar company reflects not only personal perseverance but also the growing power of India’s digital education revolution.
A Landmark Moment in India’s Rich List
The latest rankings highlight the changing face of wealth creation in India, with entrepreneurs from the technology and education sectors increasingly challenging long-established entertainment icons.
Pandey’s rise underscores how innovation and scalable business models in the knowledge economy are reshaping India’s financial landscape—marking a new era where educators can rival film stars in influence and wealth.
