Abu Dhabi, UAE – September 2025: The Abu Dhabi Arabic Language Centre (ALC) has entered a significant partnership with Amazon Alexa. This agreement will allow Alexa users in the UAE and Saudi Arabia to access Arabic-language content created and managed by the ALC. This collaboration marks a major milestone in promoting the Arabic language through modern technology and digital platforms.
The agreement between ALC and Amazon Alexa was inspired by the success of the Congress of Arabic & Creative Industries (Congress ACI), the centre’s flagship event. The Congress is designed to showcase Arabic creativity, support cultural and creative industries, and develop partnerships that strengthen the global presence of Arabic. Amazon Alexa’s participation in the 2024 edition of Congress ACI helped lay the foundation for this collaboration.

Expanding the Reach of Arabic Through Technology
His Excellency Dr Ali bin Tamim, Chairman of the Abu Dhabi Arabic Language Centre, emphasized that this partnership is a vital step in promoting the Arabic language. He said the agreement with Amazon Alexa will enable the ALC to reach a larger audience while using the latest advancements in technology and artificial intelligence.
Dr Tamim highlighted that Arabic is a dynamic and flexible language. He explained that the language has a long history of contributing to both practical and creative fields. By providing access to two of the ALC’s key digital projects—the Poetry Encyclopaedia and the Digital Lexicon—this partnership will help millions of users around the world enjoy and learn Arabic more easily.
Dr Tamim stated: “This collaboration allows wider audiences to explore the richness of Arabic. Users will now benefit from digital tools that bring our language closer to people everywhere. It is an important step in combining the heritage of Arabic with the opportunities of the digital age.”
Amazon Alexa Supports Arabic Language Growth
Dr Raf Fatani, Regional General Manager of Alexa, Amazon MENA, said that voice technology can play a key role in preserving cultural heritage and making information more accessible. He explained that integrating ALC’s Arabic content into Alexa will improve the experience for Arabic-speaking users and promote Arabic culture globally.
Dr Fatani added: “At Amazon, we want our technology to support cultural identity while helping people in their daily lives. Working with the Abu Dhabi Arabic Language Centre allows us to contribute to Arabic language development and make its rich tradition more accessible worldwide.”
This partnership aligns with Amazon’s vision of creating technology that respects cultural heritage while being useful for everyday activities. Alexa users will now have easier access to Arabic content, benefiting native speakers as well as learners of the language.
The Digital Lexicon: A Key Initiative
One of the main components of this collaboration is the Digital Lexicon, known as Daleel Al Maany. Launched in 2021, the Digital Lexicon is a comprehensive collection of commonly used Arabic words found on digital platforms, websites, and blogs. It is regularly updated to ensure that users have access to the most accurate and current Arabic vocabulary.
The Digital Lexicon serves as a reference for both Arabic speakers and non-Arabic speakers who want to learn and use the language correctly. By integrating this content into Alexa, users can now explore the Arabic language in a practical, interactive way, whether for learning, research, or daily communication.
The Poetry Encyclopaedia: Preserving Arabic Literature
The second key project in this partnership is the Poetry Encyclopaedia. This is an open-source archive that contains classical and modern Arabic poetry. The Encyclopaedia is one of the most important cultural initiatives in the Arab world and highlights the richness, diversity, and beauty of Arabic literature.
Through this collaboration with Alexa, poetry enthusiasts and learners worldwide will have easy access to Arabic poetry. This not only promotes the Arabic language but also positions Abu Dhabi as a leading centre for cultural preservation and creative expression in the Arab region and beyond.
Impact on Users and Arabic Language Promotion
The partnership between ALC and Amazon Alexa is expected to have a major impact on Arabic language promotion. By making these resources available through a popular digital assistant, millions of users can explore Arabic language content conveniently. This step strengthens the ALC’s commitment to preserving Arabic and making it widely accessible on all platforms.
Users in the UAE, Saudi Arabia, and around the world will be able to benefit from both the Digital Lexicon and the Poetry Encyclopaedia. This will enrich their understanding of Arabic vocabulary, grammar, culture, and literary traditions.
Strategic Importance of Congress ACI
This agreement is also a testament to the success of Congress ACI, which has become a leading platform for showcasing Arabic creativity and fostering partnerships. By bringing together experts, innovators, and cultural leaders, Congress ACI has created opportunities for initiatives like this collaboration with Amazon Alexa.
The Congress continues to play a vital role in promoting sustainable and high-impact projects that amplify Arabic language influence globally. The partnership with Alexa is one example of how the event helps bridge technology and culture, encouraging more strategic collaborations in the future.
Arabic in the Digital Age
Dr Tamim emphasized that Arabic remains one of the most vibrant and adaptable languages in the world. By combining the ALC’s expertise with Alexa’s technological capabilities, this collaboration will allow Arabic to thrive in the digital age.
He concluded: “Our aim is to ensure that Arabic continues to grow as a language of culture, science, and innovation. By providing digital tools and content, we are bringing the treasures of Arabic closer to people and ensuring that it remains accessible, relevant, and vibrant for generations to come.”
The partnership between the Abu Dhabi Arabic Language Centre and Amazon Alexa marks a historic step in promoting Arabic globally. By integrating the Digital Lexicon and Poetry Encyclopaedia into Alexa, the collaboration bridges traditional Arabic heritage with modern technology. It provides millions of users access to the richness of the Arabic language, supporting learning, cultural appreciation, and daily usage.
This strategic collaboration highlights the power of combining cultural initiatives with digital innovation. It strengthens the ALC’s mission of preserving and promoting Arabic while demonstrating how technology can play a vital role in making languages more accessible and engaging for the world.
With this agreement, Arabic language content is no longer limited to traditional platforms; it can now reach anyone with a digital device, helping Arabic continue its legacy as a language of creativity, knowledge, and culture.
