Post by : MANISH KAPIL
A 27-year-old man has recently captured online attention by sharing his poignant reflections on living alone in Bengaluru, a city known for its vibrant pace and bustling atmosphere. His post, shared on August 21, details his experiences and the complex emotions tied to solitary living.
In his candid account, the man describes how living alone grants him a cherished sense of freedom. "On one hand, there's a certain freedom that comes with having your own space. I get to cook my own meals, watch whatever I want, and organize my place just the way I like it (minimalism, anyone?)” he wrote. This freedom includes the autonomy to shape his living environment and daily routine according to his preferences.
However, this freedom comes with its own set of challenges. The man also expressed the loneliness that accompanies solitary living. “But on the other hand, there's a deep sense of loneliness that creeps in, especially when all you hear is the hum of the city outside and the silence inside your home.” He noted that despite the bustling city life of Bengaluru, the solitude inside his home often feels overwhelming.

The man’s reflections extend beyond personal freedom to the everyday realities of managing life alone. He mentioned the added responsibilities of being the chef, cleaner, and entertainer in his own home. "There are days when the quiet is overwhelming, and the hustle feels like it's all just too much. Bangalore is an amazing city with so much to offer, but sometimes, it feels like the more people there are around you, the lonelier it gets. It's tough to make connections that go beyond the surface level, and the daily grind leaves little room for socializing," he added.
Since the post went live, it has resonated with many, accumulating over 500 upvotes and generating a wave of comments from others who relate to his experience. Responses to the post reveal a shared sense of struggle among those living alone:
- One commenter wrote, “28 and same. However, I had a pretty decent social life, but slowly, my friends moved out of the city (all 3 of them). Now, I'm just fighting to live another day. Hoping for a miracle that someone may pull me away from this loneliness.”
- Another advised, “I would say get a purpose. And be busy pursuing it. It can be switching to a different company or maybe doing something on your own. Only when you are free do you start getting the idea of loneliness.”
- A third person shared, “Once Kohli said he felt lonely even in a room full of people, and I have never related better to anything else. The loneliness just sets in without you guessing.”
The man’s reflections on his solitary life in Bengaluru provide a window into the personal challenges of navigating independence in a busy city, revealing how the freedom of living alone can be accompanied by profound feelings of isolation.
