On Thursday, U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio engaged in a phone conversation with Bulgarian Prime Minister Andrey Gurov, expressing gratitude for Bulgaria’s ongoing support and collaboration on critical security matters.
During their dialogue, Secretary Rubio recognized Bulgaria for its dependable partnership, particularly its assistance in the safe evacuation of U.S. citizens and diplomatic staff from the Middle East amidst escalating regional tensions. This support has been deemed vital for the safety of U.S. nationals.
The call also focused on enhancing defense and security cooperation between the two nations. Rubio commended Bulgaria’s commitments to increased defense expenditures and military advancements, including the acquisition of U.S. defense equipment. Such actions are seen as part of a broader mission to fortify regional security and European partnerships.
Another significant point of discussion was energy collaboration. Rubio highlighted Bulgaria’s backing of the Vertical Gas Corridor project, designed to bolster Europe’s energy security by introducing alternative natural gas supply lines. This initiative opens doors for U.S. liquefied natural gas exports, facilitating energy diversification and reducing reliance on restricted suppliers.
Both leaders reaffirmed their commitment to ongoing partnerships in security, defense, and energy. The call showcased the robust and evolving relationship between the United States and Bulgaria as they unite to tackle regional challenges and foster stability.
