The United States has unveiled an innovative commercial diplomacy strategy aimed at bolstering support for American businesses and broadening their international reach. Assistant Secretary of State Caleb Orr shared insights about the initiative during a meeting with industry leaders in New York City, underlining efforts to foster economic engagement globally.
At a gathering organized by the Manhattan Institute, Orr announced the launch of the Commercial Diplomacy Enterprise (CDE), a comprehensive strategy designed to refine how the U.S. government aids its companies overseas. The initiative seeks to streamline existing frameworks while incorporating new tools to enhance American businesses’ competitiveness in international markets.
Since January 2025, officials have reported that the State Department has facilitated over $432 billion in business achievements for U.S. firms, supporting upwards of 1.2 million jobs. The newly initiated CDE is anticipated to build on these accomplishments by amplifying support and creating new avenues in crucial global sectors.
The Commercial Diplomacy Enterprise is centered on advancing U.S. economic goals by assisting companies in navigating foreign markets, pinpointing investment prospects, and securing significant contracts. By enhancing collaboration within government bodies, the initiative aspires to provide more reliable and effective assistance for U.S. firms operating abroad.
At the event, Orr also introduced a new online platform through the Office of Commercial and Business Affairs. This resource will enable U.S. companies to sign up for alerts related to strategic international investment opportunities, keeping them informed and competitive in a swiftly evolving global marketplace.
This initiative underscores a broader commitment by the United States to elevate economic diplomacy as an essential element of its global strategy, prioritizing job creation, business expansion, and reinforcing the nation's economic stature worldwide.
