Giannini stressed that education is essential for sustainable development and that teachers play a pivotal role in shaping societies. By recognizing the contributions of educators, the prize supports the development of innovative teaching practices that have a transformative impact on educational systems.
The prize is a testament to the strong partnership between UNESCO and the UAE, underscored by Sheikh Rashid bin Hamdan Al Maktoum’s involvement. Giannini noted that the UAE plays a leading role in promoting education globally, and the Hamdan Prize is central to these efforts, helping to uplift educators who are the foundation of any successful education system.
Drawing from her experience as Italy's former Minister of Education, Giannini explained how the prize acts as a catalyst for positive change by acknowledging institutions and individuals making exceptional contributions to education. She emphasized its importance in improving education in developing countries, assisting institutions in overcoming significant challenges.
Now in its eighth edition, the Hamdan Prize recognized three international institutions for their innovative approaches to education, highlighting the shared commitment of UNESCO and the UAE to fostering inclusive and forward-thinking education systems globally. Giannini concluded by affirming that this partnership is key to ensuring education for all, particularly in underserved regions.
