The UAE national football team will face Iraq tomorrow in the first leg of the Asian play-off qualifying round for the 2026 World Cup. The important match will take place at Mohammed bin Zayed Stadium in Abu Dhabi. Football fans across the UAE are eagerly waiting to support their team as they aim to move one step closer to qualification for the next World Cup finals.
Head coach Olariu Cosmin of Romania, who leads the UAE national team, spoke about the importance of the match during a press conference held today. He said that this encounter is one of the most important matches in the history of the UAE national team. Cosmin highlighted that his players understand how significant this game is and that they must perform at their highest level while staying calm under pressure.
Cosmin added that the team has spent the past few days recovering physically and mentally after their previous games. He said that he and his coaching staff worked hard to prepare the players for this crucial challenge. The Romanian coach also noted that Iraq is a well-organized and strong team, which makes the match even more challenging. However, he expressed confidence that the UAE players are ready to give their best and use every opportunity that comes their way.
He emphasized that his team must focus only on the game plan and not be distracted by the pressure or expectations from the fans. “We must perform with full confidence and show the best version of ourselves on the pitch,” he said. “Pressure is normal in such big events, but those who can handle pressure are the ones who succeed. Tomorrow, we have to give everything and show our true strength.”
Cosmin also thanked the players for their dedication during training and said that the atmosphere in the camp has been very positive. He believes that with discipline and teamwork, the UAE can achieve a strong result in the first leg, which will be vital before heading into the return leg in Iraq.
On the other side, Graham Arnold, the coach of the Iraqi national team, also expressed confidence ahead of the match. During his press conference, he said that both teams have equal chances of winning and that the game will depend on performance on the day. Arnold dismissed the idea that Iraq has an advantage because they will play the second leg at home in Basra.
Arnold explained that his team’s full attention is currently on the first leg in Abu Dhabi. He said his players are focused and ready to give their best to achieve a good result. “We have studied the UAE team carefully,” he said. “They are strong, well-organized, and play with great spirit, but we are also prepared and confident. Our players know how important this match is for the country, and they will give their best performance.”
The upcoming match is expected to be intense, as both teams are aiming for a place in the 2026 World Cup, which will be held in the United States, Canada, and Mexico. The UAE team has been training hard to improve its form and strategy under Cosmin’s guidance. The players are motivated to make history and bring pride to their fans by securing qualification for the tournament.
Supporters are expected to fill the Mohammed bin Zayed Stadium to cheer for the UAE national team. The match will be an opportunity for the team to show its progress and strong fighting spirit. With young talents and experienced players working together, the UAE hopes to gain an advantage before the second leg.
As the countdown continues, both teams are focused on delivering their best performances. The UAE aims to start strong at home, while Iraq will look to secure a good away result before the return fixture. The match promises excitement, passion, and determination from both sides, as they compete for a precious spot in the next round of World Cup qualification.
