Etihad Rail achieved a significant milestone by operating its inaugural rail journey, linking the cities of Abu Dhabi and Al Dhannah. The rail service, currently in development, is poised to become operational, offering convenient travel for ADNOC's staff and contractors between these two locations.
The landmark journey was undertaken by Dr. Sultan bin Ahmed Al Jaber, the Managing Director and Group CEO of Abu Dhabi National Oil Company (ADNOC), alongside members of ADNOC's Executive Leadership team. Following this noteworthy event, Dr. Al Jaber conducted a comprehensive tour of Adnoc's downstream and petrochemicals hub in Al Ruwais Industrial City. The tour provided updates on key strategic growth projects, including Borouge 4, Adnoc Refining, and the Ruwais LNG project.
Expressing the strategic importance of the partnership between Adnoc and Etihad Rail, Dr. Al Jaber stated that the development of passenger rail services between Abu Dhabi City and Al Dhannah City aligns with the UAE's strategic priorities. The initiative, supervised by Sheikh Theyab bin Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Chairman of Etihad Rail, aims to connect major centers of trade, industry, manufacturing, production, logistics, and population.
The Etihad Rail project is envisioned not merely as a rail network but as a vital component for economic growth and infrastructure development. Dr. Al Jaber emphasized its role in driving decarbonization for the benefit of the UAE and its people.
Acknowledging the pivotal role played by Adnoc's world-class facilities in Al Ruwais Industrial City, Dr. Al Jaber commended the commitment and dedication of the staff. He highlighted their contribution to showcasing the nation's commitment to excellence and innovation, reinforcing its status as a responsible and reliable global energy leader.
The rail passenger service represents an extension of the close strategic partnership between Adnoc and Etihad Rail. This partnership has already seen the transportation of sulfur products by rail between Shah and Habshan to the export point at Al Ruwais Industrial City, positioning Adnoc Sour Gas as a leading global sulfur producer.
Shadi Malak, CEO of Etihad Rail, expressed pleasure in hosting Adnoc's executive leadership team on the inaugural rail journey. He emphasized the strategic partnership and Adnoc's role as an early adopter of rail transportation solutions. Etihad Rail, as part of ongoing efforts to establish strategic partnerships, aims to develop an integrated transportation system aligned with the directives of the UAE's wise leadership and under the supervision of Chairman Sheikh Theyab bin Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan.
Malak emphasized that Etihad Rail is reinforcing the UAE's position as a leading global hub in logistics, transportation, and infrastructure. The rail network contributes by providing effective and reliable transportation solutions in accordance with international standards, connecting cities and industries through a safe and sustainable rail network.
