UAE & Azerbaijan Join Hands to Boost Investment & Growth

Dubai: The UAE and Azerbaijan are stepping up their economic partnership. ADQ, one of the UAE’s biggest investment firms, and Azerbaijan Investment Holding (AIH) have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to work together on new investment opportunities.

The agreement was signed during the visit of His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, President of the UAE, to Azerbaijan. President Ilham Aliyev of Azerbaijan was also present at the signing ceremony.

Under this MoU, ADQ and AIH will explore opportunities in financial services, aiming to create a stronger investment environment and connect markets better. This move builds on a previous joint investment platform launched in December 2023. In that platform, both sides committed equal funding to projects in agriculture, technology, pharmaceuticals, and energy infrastructure across Azerbaijan, the UAE, and Central Asia, with plans to expand further.

Mohamed Hassan Alsuwaidi, CEO of ADQ, said, “This agreement shows our commitment to long-term partnerships. By investing patiently and smartly, we help grow key sectors, diversify economies, and create jobs. It also strengthens connections across the region and enhances global competitiveness.”

Ruslan Alikhanov, CEO of AIH, added, “Partnering with ADQ opens new doors for Azerbaijan’s growth. Together, we are investing in important industries, supporting diversified growth, and positioning Azerbaijan as an active player on the world stage.”

Founded in 2020, AIH manages state-owned companies in Azerbaijan, improving their performance and efficiency. It plays a major role in modernizing the country’s economy and shaping long-term growth.

Trade between the UAE and Azerbaijan is growing fast. Non-oil trade rose 43% in 2024, reaching US$2.4 billion. The UAE is now a top investor in Azerbaijan, with investments exceeding US$1 billion. This shows strong and lasting economic ties since the countries first connected in 1992.

This new partnership is expected to create many opportunities in business, industry, and technology, benefiting people and economies on both sides.
