Tshepo Balozwi: From Career Advocate to Starting Again in Dubai

In a world where success is often measured by titles and positions, Tshepo Balozwi’s journey tells a different story. It is a story about humility, resilience, and the courage to begin again when life demands it.

Originally from Botswana, Tshepo is a national award winning employment advocate, customer service consultant, and training facilitator who has spent more than a decade helping others navigate their professional paths. Today he works as a trolley collector at Dubai International Airport, a role he proudly describes as the beginning of a new chapter rather than a step backward.

His journey reflects a simple but powerful belief that failure does not define a person’s future.

Tshepo’s professional mission began long before he entered the workforce. As a young man he volunteered with the Botswana Student Network, where he developed leadership, public speaking, and community engagement skills. What began as a passion for volunteerism gradually evolved into a deeper commitment to helping others find direction in their careers.

Through dedication and service he rose within the organization, eventually serving on the National Executive Committee and leading as a branch manager. These experiences helped shape his understanding of leadership and mentorship.

Over the years he combined his experience with professional training as a global career counsellor, guiding individuals who were struggling with employment challenges and uncertainty about their futures.

His motivation for doing this work came from his own life story.

After completing high school, Tshepo faced one of the most discouraging moments of his life when his Grade 12 results prevented him from entering universities in Botswana. Many people might have accepted that setback as the end of their academic ambitions. Instead, Tshepo searched for another path.

He eventually secured admission to an international university in Cyprus, a decision that changed the trajectory of his life. That opportunity proved that potential cannot always be measured by a single examination score.

This experience became the foundation of his belief that hard work, faith, and patience shape a person’s destiny more than early failures.

During his professional journey he gained experience across both government and private sector organizations. Working in these different environments taught him valuable lessons about career growth and resilience.

The private sector demanded constant adaptation and innovation. Competition was intense and survival required continuous learning. In contrast, the public sector offered stability but sometimes encouraged complacency. From these experiences Tshepo concluded that true growth is ultimately the responsibility of the individual rather than the organization.

Motivated by this understanding, he established Career Lounge, a consultancy platform focused on youth employment and career guidance.

The platform was built around a simple idea. Instead of encouraging young people to search for jobs that merely fit expectations, they should discover and ignite their own unique talents.

Career Lounge soon gained recognition for its impact and was awarded Best Youth Employment Program of the Year. For Tshepo, this recognition represented more than professional success. It confirmed that consistent dedication to helping others can create meaningful change.

His growing influence also led to his selection as a delegate for the Forbes Thirty Under Thirty Africa network. That experience broadened his perspective on leadership and entrepreneurship across the continent.

Through interactions with young innovators and entrepreneurs, he realized that success is not measured only by personal achievements but by the impact one creates for others.

While guiding professionals through career transitions, Tshepo began noticing a recurring question.

Many people would ask him the same thing.

Is it possible to start again.

He believes this question reflects a deeper transformation happening in modern society. As more people witness individuals building careers from their passions and talents, many begin questioning traditional paths that once seemed secure.

For Tshepo, the answer to that question is simple.

Yes, it is possible.

His own life became proof of that belief when he decided to relocate to the United Arab Emirates.

The idea had existed in his mind for many years, but attending the Global Education Supplies and Solutions conference in Dubai turned that dream into a concrete plan. During the event he connected with professionals from across the world and felt an immediate sense of belonging in the city.

Soon after celebrating his thirtieth birthday, he made the bold decision to relocate.

To finance the move he sold his car and invested everything into starting a new life in Dubai. For him the decision represented more than financial risk. It symbolized total commitment to his vision.

The early months were difficult.

Despite submitting many job applications, opportunities did not appear easily. Financial pressure began to grow and uncertainty became part of daily life.

During that time he briefly worked with a tile grouting company, performing physically demanding labor under the intense heat of the Dubai summer.

Yet the experience became an unexpected source of motivation.

Working inside luxury villas on Palm Jumeirah and high rise penthouses allowed him to see firsthand the possibilities that exist in a city driven by ambition. Instead of discouraging him, those environments strengthened his determination to succeed.

There was also an important voice encouraging him during that period. His manager repeatedly told him that he was capable of achieving far more than the role he was performing. Hearing someone recognize his potential reinforced his belief that his journey was only beginning.

At one point his funds were nearly exhausted and he considered returning home.

Then something remarkable happened.

A woman he had met through social media stepped forward to support him. She believed in his potential so strongly that she helped finance his continued stay in Dubai.

For Tshepo this act of kindness became a turning point. It reminded him that resilience is sometimes strengthened by the belief others place in you.

Determined to remain in the UAE, he made another important decision.

He downgraded his resume and began applying for entry level positions. Eventually he secured a role as a trolley collector at Dubai International Airport.

For many people such a transition might have felt like a setback. For Tshepo it became a lesson in humility and perseverance.

Working at the airport allows him to interact with travelers from across the world while reminding himself that every journey begins somewhere. He describes the role as a period of active patience, where he continues building experience and preparing for the next stage of his career.

Even in this position he feels proud.

Many passengers express surprise when they learn he traveled from Botswana to work in such a role. Instead of feeling discouraged by those reactions, he views them as an opportunity to represent the resilience of his country.

For him, dignity in work matters more than status.

Looking toward the future, Tshepo hopes to transition into roles in human resources and training and development. His ultimate vision is to become an entrepreneur and investor who helps others access opportunities they might otherwise miss.

He wants to sponsor talented individuals who lack financial resources, opening doors for them just as others opened doors for him.

Beyond professional ambitions, he also hopes to build a family and share life’s achievements with a partner who supports his journey.

Through everything he has experienced, Tshepo holds firmly to one philosophy.

No job is too small for a person who carries a vision.

Because humility, he believes, is the soil where greatness grows.
