Indian Wells Open will see a blockbuster final as Aryna Sabalenka and Elena Rybakina secured straight-sets victories in their semi-final matches on Friday.
World number one Sabalenka defeated Linda Noskova 6-3, 6-4 to advance to the final. The Belarusian star continued her impressive form this season, winning 16 of her first 17 matches. Her only defeat this year came against Rybakina in the final of the Australian Open earlier in January.
Sabalenka dominated the first set after breaking Noskova early to take a 3-1 lead. The Czech player struggled with her serve, including a costly double fault that allowed Sabalenka to extend the lead to 5-1. Although Noskova briefly broke back while Sabalenka was serving for the set, the top seed quickly recovered and closed the set with a powerful ace.
In the second set, Sabalenka secured an early break in the opening game and maintained control for the rest of the match. Noskova had only one opportunity to break back but could not convert against Sabalenka’s strong serving and aggressive play.
Sabalenka said her serve played a key role in the victory and praised Noskova’s ability to capitalize on any small opportunity. The win sends Sabalenka into her third Indian Wells final in the last four years as she aims to win her first title at the tournament. It will also be the 14th WTA 1000 final of her career.
In the other semi-final, Kazakhstan’s Rybakina defeated Elina Svitolina 7-5, 6-4 in a competitive match. Svitolina started strongly, hitting four aces in the opening set, but several unforced errors allowed Rybakina to gain momentum.
Rybakina took control with her powerful serve and consistent baseline play. She surged to a 4-0 lead in the second set and held off a late push from Svitolina to secure the win.
Sunday’s final will be the third title match between Sabalenka and Rybakina in the last six months. Rybakina has won the previous two meetings, including victories at the WTA Finals in November and the Australian Open earlier this year.
The upcoming final is expected to be another thrilling contest as both players look to add another major title to their season.
