In a significant development, Ravi Kana, a notorious figure in the scrap metal underworld, along with his accomplice and girlfriend Kajal Jha, has been apprehended in Thailand, as confirmed by official sources in New Delhi on Tuesday. Kana, hailing from western Uttar Pradesh, had been evading law enforcement agencies for his involvement in multiple criminal cases, particularly in the Noida region.
According to reliable sources, the Noida Police had maintained close coordination with their counterparts in Thailand, furnishing them with comprehensive details regarding Kana's criminal activities. A red corner notice had been issued against him in January, underscoring the severity of the charges against him. Kana had been implicated under the stringent Uttar Pradesh Gangsters and Anti-Social Activities (Prevention) Act following an investigation initiated by the Greater Noida Police on January 2.
Described as the mastermind behind a sophisticated criminal operation, Kana, also known as Ravindra Nagar, reportedly led a well-organized gang comprising 16 members, primarily engaged in the illicit procurement and sale of rebar and scrap material. It's alleged that Kana's criminal enterprise amassed considerable wealth through extortion and illegal activities targeting businesses in the Delhi-NCR region, transforming him from a humble scrap dealer into a millionaire.

The law enforcement authorities have documented over 11 cases against Kana and his associates, encompassing charges ranging from kidnapping to theft. In a proactive effort to dismantle the criminal network, six members of Kana's gang have already been apprehended, and several scrap godowns utilized by the syndicate across Greater Noida have been sealed.
The Noida Police, in a commendable display of resolve, had previously announced the attachment of assets valued at over ₹120 crore linked to Kana and his associates. Earlier in January, authorities conducted a raid and sealed a lavish South Delhi bungalow, estimated to be worth ₹100 crore, allegedly gifted by Kana to his girlfriend, Kajal Jha.
Kajal Jha, initially seeking employment opportunities, eventually became deeply involved in Kana's criminal activities, emerging as a pivotal figure within the gang. Her responsibilities included managing the finances and overseeing the intricate network of benami properties associated with Kana's illicit ventures.
The apprehension of Kana and Jha represents a significant victory for law enforcement agencies, signaling their relentless pursuit of justice and commitment to upholding the rule of law. However, the incident underscores the pervasive influence of organized crime and the challenges faced by authorities in combating sophisticated criminal networks operating across geographical boundaries. As investigations continue and legal proceedings unfold, the case serves as a reminder of the importance of international cooperation in addressing transnational criminal activities and ensuring accountability for perpetrators of serious offenses.
