The Technology Innovation Institute (TII), as the applied research arm of Abu Dhabi’s Advanced Technology Research Council (ATRC), has unveiled the latest iteration of its large language model (LLM) called Falcon 2 11B. This release marks a significant milestone in AI innovation, offering two versions: Falcon 2 11B and Falcon 2 11B VLM.
Falcon 2 11B is a more efficient and accessible LLM, trained on 5.5 trillion tokens with 11 billion parameters. Meanwhile, Falcon 2 11B VLM stands out as TII's first multimodal model, capable of converting visual inputs into textual outputs, thereby advancing AI capabilities.
In performance tests against prominent AI models, Falcon 2 11B has demonstrated superiority over Meta’s Llama 3 and is on par with Google’s Gemma 7B. Notably, both Falcon 2 11B versions are open-source, empowering developers worldwide.

H.E. Faisal Al Bannai, Secretary General of Advanced Technology Research Council, emphasizes TII's commitment to the open-source movement and privacy preservation.
Dr. Hakim Hacid, Executive Director of TII's AI Cross-Centre Unit, highlights the importance of smaller, more efficient models in AI evolution and the transformative potential of Falcon 2 11B's vision-to-language capabilities.
TII's exploration of new AI innovations, including Mixture of Experts, aims to further enhance AI accuracy and efficiency, paving the way for more intelligent systems.
Falcon 2 11B is licensed under TII Falcon License 2.0, promoting responsible AI use.
