Tamil actor Abhinay, best remembered for his debut in the 2002 film Thulluvadho Ilamai, passed away on November 10 at the age of 44 following complications from liver disease. The actor’s prolonged struggle with health issues and public appeals for financial assistance had garnered widespread support from fans and colleagues in recent years.
Abhinay began his cinematic journey alongside Dhanush in Thulluvadho Ilamai, a film that marked a significant milestone for both actors. Over two decades, he contributed to Tamil, Telugu, and Kannada cinema, with over 15 credits spanning films, advertisements, and voice dubbing. Notably, he lent his voice to Vidyut Jammwal’s character in the 2012 Tamil hit Thuppakki, starring Thalapathy Vijay and directed by AR Murugadoss.
In recent years, Abhinay had openly shared his battle with liver disease, including a heartfelt video appeal in which he revealed that doctors had given him a grim prognosis of about a year and a half to live. As medical costs escalated, he sought help from the film industry and fans alike. Several colleagues, including comedian KPY Bala and his debut co-star Dhanush, responded with financial support, highlighting the respect he had earned in the industry.
The Nadigar Sangam has been tasked with overseeing Abhinay’s final rites, as the actor did not have immediate family to perform the ceremonies. His passing is being mourned widely across the Tamil film fraternity and by fans who continue to remember his remarkable contributions to regional cinema.
Abhinay’s performances, particularly in Thulluvadho Ilamai, remain etched in audiences’ memories, and his dedication to cinema—even during times of personal struggle—stands as a testament to his enduring legacy.
