Sydney Sweeney, the star of Euphoria, has broken up with her long-time fiancé, Jonathan Davino. Honestly, this news doesn’t come as a big surprise. The 27-year-old actress has been rising to fame quickly, and it seems like being tied down to a 41-year-old businessman just wasn’t on her plan for 2024.
Sources close to Sydney say she felt overwhelmed by the idea of marriage. Her career was taking off, and she just couldn’t focus on a relationship and a wedding at the same time. "What made her overwhelmed was her relationship and her wedding. She didn’t feel right about it," a source told People. This basically means Sydney is too busy working hard in Hollywood to think about being a wife.

Fans started to notice the breakup when Sydney removed a photo of her and Jonathan from her Instagram. This photo, taken around New Year’s, was the only recent one of them together. Then, Sydney was seen without her engagement ring, looking totally carefree, making it clear that she was done with the relationship. Even more telling, the couple had been living apart for almost a month before the news came out. This breakup wasn’t something that happened suddenly; Sydney had probably been thinking about it for a while. And honestly, did anyone think a rising star like Sydney would stay with a businessman who prefers to keep a low profile forever?
Instead of feeling sad about the breakup, Sydney was soon seen hanging out with her Anyone But You co-star, Glen Powell, in Texas. The two were seen having a good time at Glen’s sister’s wedding. People have been talking about the chemistry between Sydney and Glen since their movie hit theaters, and now they’re wondering if there’s something more to their friendship. Their latest hangout is just adding fuel to the fire of those romance rumors.
So, why did Sydney end things with Jonathan? According to sources, it wasn’t because they didn’t love each other. It was because Sydney wants to focus on her career right now. "She’s not ready to settle down," the source shared. "They only lasted for this long because it was hard for her to break it off. They didn’t split because there was no love. They split because she just wants to focus on her career right now."
What this really means is that Sydney knew the relationship wasn’t working for a while, but she didn’t want to end it right away. When your career is taking off, it makes sense to not tie yourself down, especially if your partner’s biggest achievement is being a businessman.
Now that the breakup is official, Sydney is doing just fine. She has a lot of exciting projects ahead, including a new season of Euphoria and a thriller called The Housemaid.
As for her love life? She’s keeping it simple. No quick engagements or relationships that hold her back. Sydney is focused on being the star she’s becoming and making her own choices. Sorry, Jonathan, but Sydney Sweeney is now single, independent, and unstoppable. And we’re all cheering her on.
