In a bid to streamline travel for the Songkran festival, the Department of Highways has announced a temporary suspension of construction on Rama II Road.
This move is aimed at alleviating traffic congestion, enabling people to make their way to hometowns and favorite tourist spots during this popular holiday season. Main travel lanes on Rama II have been restored for both inbound and outbound traffic to promote safe and efficient travel.
Safety inspections of the construction area linked to the Bang Khun Thian - Ban Phaeo Elevated Expressway project, specifically Sections 4 and 7, have confirmed that necessary structural integrity is maintained.
Officials indicated that the pause will continue throughout the Songkran festival, enhancing traffic flow and minimizing congestion on this vital roadway.
Post-holiday, construction will recommence, necessitating further traffic management measures. Some lanes will be closed again as remaining elevated structures are lifted and installed, ensuring compliance with safety standards.
Traffic diversions are set to commence on April 20, 2026, at kilometer points 26 and 30+500. These will apply during daytime hours from 05:00 to 20:00, intended to reduce disruption to travelers.
Authorities plan to finalize remaining construction and restore all lanes by mid-May 2026, ahead of the upcoming school term, to mitigate congestion during peak travel times.
The Department of Highways encourages everyone to stay updated on traffic news and plan journeys accordingly. For real-time road conditions, travelers can reach out to the official hotline for assistance.
