The Civil Aviation Authority of Singapore has introduced fresh safety regulations that restrict air travelers departing from Singapore to a maximum of two power banks per individual, effective April 15, 2026. This initiative is part of global aviation safety enhancements aimed at mitigating fire dangers linked to lithium batteries onboard planes.
As per the revised guidelines, passengers are forbidden from charging power banks during flights and are discouraged from using them to power their personal devices while in the air. Those who bring more than two power banks will need to dispose of any extras prior to boarding, ensuring adherence to these updated regulations.
This policy update follows recently issued safety advice from the International Civil Aviation Organization regarding the hazards associated with lithium batteries, such as the risks of overheating and short-circuiting. Authorities point out that such measures are crucial for enhancing the safety of passengers while also ensuring a feasible travel experience.
Singapore’s airlines, including Singapore Airlines and Scoot, have already imposed restrictions on the use and charging of power banks since 2025. Officials recommend that travelers check specific airline policies before departure, as there may be additional rules in place beyond these new standards.
