After wrapping up its Varanasi schedule in late October, the team of Mirzapur: The Film has now moved to Jaisalmer for the next phase of shooting, which will continue until mid-December. As production progresses, actor Shweta Tripathi has reflected deeply on returning to the franchise and stepping back into her celebrated role as Golu Gupta.
Shweta described the experience of returning to the set as a warm, emotional reunion with a character she has lived with for nearly a decade. For her, slipping back into Golu’s world felt natural and nostalgic. She shared how the process of doing the look test made everything feel real again, making her realise the unique bond she has built with the character over nine years. Simple joys like eating Varanasi chaat and revisiting familiar shooting corners enhanced the feeling of homecoming.
Beyond its connection to Mirzapur, Varanasi carries a deeply personal significance for Shweta Tripathi. Her breakthrough project Masaan (2015) was filmed there, shaping the early years of her artistic journey. Returning to the same city for another major project felt like destiny, she said. The actor expressed that Varanasi grounds her and fills her with a sense of life coming full circle. She added that her maternal grandfather had also studied there, and childhood stories about the city created an emotional and cultural link long before her career began. Being back in Varanasi, she said, is always accompanied by a feeling of spiritual comfort and connection.
With Mirzapur transitioning to the big screen, excitement and anticipation among the cast and crew are high. Shweta described the atmosphere as a mix of nerves and enthusiasm, calling this shift a “new chapter” for everyone involved. She said the desire for the film to perform well extends beyond personal success; it is rooted in a collective sense of pride and teamwork that has always defined the Mirzapur family. According to her, the strength of the franchise lies in how every cast member supports each other's work and contributes to the story’s larger vision.
The film’s shift to Jaisalmer marks a visually interesting turn for the project. The city’s desert landscapes, historic forts, and expansive terrains hint at an expanded cinematic universe, offering viewers a new visual texture while preserving the gritty intensity that defines Mirzapur. This extended schedule suggests that key scenes will unfold against the dramatic backdrop of Rajasthan, adding depth and scale to the theatrical adaptation.
As filming continues, Mirzapur: The Film remains one of the most awaited projects in Indian entertainment. Shweta Tripathi’s heartfelt reflections, combined with the team's ongoing efforts in Jaisalmer, reinforce the sense that this cinematic leap aims to deliver something both fresh and emotionally rooted. Fans can expect a powerful blend of nostalgia, expanded storytelling, and the trademark intensity that made the franchise a phenomenon.
