The Atlanta Hawks produced one of their most exciting wins of the season after completing a huge comeback against the Phoenix Suns on Sunday. The Hawks were down by 22 points in the fourth quarter but still found the energy, belief, and teamwork to turn the game around and win 124-122 in Phoenix. It was a dramatic finish that kept fans on the edge of their seats until the last second of the game.
Nickeil Alexander-Walker was the hero of the night for the Hawks. He scored 26 points in total, but what made his performance truly special was the 16 points he scored in the fourth quarter alone. Every time the Hawks needed an important basket, Alexander-Walker stepped up with confidence and kept the team alive in the game. His scoring, calmness, and leadership helped Atlanta keep pushing when the situation looked almost impossible.
Jalen Johnson was also a major part of Atlanta’s victory. He scored 25 points and grabbed 10 rebounds, giving the Hawks a strong presence near the basket. Onyeka Okongwu had an outstanding game as well with 27 points and several huge plays in the final minutes. Dyson Daniels helped control the game by making smart passes throughout the night and finishing with 11 points and 12 assists, earning a double-double. These combined performances helped the Hawks extend their winning streak to five games, making their western road trip a perfect 4-0.
For the Suns, Dillon Brooks was the top scorer with 34 points. Devin Booker followed closely with 27 points, and Collin Gillespie added 15 points along with eight rebounds and seven assists. Phoenix had been on a five-game winning streak before this defeat, and for most of the game, it looked like they were heading for another comfortable win.
The Suns ended the third quarter and started the fourth quarter with a massive 28-4 scoring run. This run gave them a 97-77 lead and complete control of the game. Their lead even reached 103-81 with about ten minutes left, and at that point, most fans believed the game was finished. However, the Hawks refused to give up and slowly began to cut into the lead.
In one of the most impressive stretches of the night, the Hawks went on a 20-0 run that suddenly brought them back into the game. The score tightened to 107-106 with just over four minutes left. Even though Phoenix tried to respond and went ahead by six again, Atlanta continued to fight hard on every play.
With just a little more than a minute left, Okongwu scored on an alley-oop dunk to give the Hawks a 117-116 lead. After that, every possession became extremely important. Both teams exchanged baskets, and the tension kept rising. The Hawks went up by three points after Johnson made two free throws, but Booker quickly cut the lead down again.
Okongwu made two more free throws with 10 seconds left to give Atlanta a bit of breathing room. Booker answered with two of his own, and then he forced a jump ball by tying up Okongwu during the inbounds play. Phoenix still had hope, but Atlanta won possession again. Alexander-Walker was fouled and made one free throw with just 3.1 seconds left, giving the Hawks a two-point lead. The Suns’ final chance came when Royce O’Neale launched a 60-foot shot at the buzzer, but it bounced off the rim, allowing Atlanta to complete the dramatic comeback.
The game also saw unfortunate news for the Hawks when Zaccharie Risacher suffered a left hip contusion after losing his balance following a dunk. He left the game and did not return. The Suns played without Grayson Allen, while the Hawks missed Kristaps Porzingis, who was out with knee soreness.
In the end, Atlanta’s strong fourth quarter, where they outscored Phoenix 47-27, made the difference. It was a victory built on resilience, team spirit, and belief—a win the Hawks will remember for a long time.
