Sharjah Unveils First Phase of Electric Bus Routes for Sustainable Transport

The Sharjah Roads and Transport Authority (SRTA) has officially launched the first phase of its environmentally friendly electric bus routes. This initiative is part of a broader strategy aimed at enhancing sustainable transportation in the region, aligning with the UAE's Net Zero by 2050 Strategic Initiative.

As part of this initial rollout, SRTA has introduced several routes connecting major destinations, including Dubai, Ajman, and Al Hamriyah. Engineer Youssef Khamis Al Othmani, Chairman of SRTA, announced that the authority will operate a fleet of 10 electric buses in this phase. The selection of these destinations was based on extensive studies and statistics that identified areas with high passenger demand.

Looking ahead, the SRTA plans to expand its electric bus fleet in the subsequent phases, further enhancing public transport options in Sharjah. Al Othmani emphasized the authority's commitment to achieving green transportation goals and significantly reducing carbon emissions. This initiative aims to create mechanisms that align with sustainable development efforts and government directives, ultimately fostering a safe and eco-friendly transportation environment for all residents and visitors in Sharjah.
