Scottie Scheffler finished the third round of the PGA Championship in great style on Saturday at Quail Hollow Club. He took a three-shot lead over Sweden’s Alex Noren. Scheffler, the world number one, is now close to winning his third major golf title.

Scheffler ended the round with a strong finish. He made an eagle on the back nine, then followed it with a birdie. He gained two more strokes on the last three tough holes, known as the Green Mile. His score for the day was six-under-par 65, the best score of the day. This brought his total to 11 under par for the tournament.

Even though Scheffler played very well, he was not perfect. He had three bogeys during the round. But he stayed calm, even when the wind made the game harder or when his tee shot landed in a divot on the 18th hole.

Scheffler said, "Some days, I stay calm better than others. Today, I did well at the end. Other days, it’s harder. I’m proud of how I fought these last three days. I’m ready for the challenge tomorrow."

For the first two days, the leaderboard did not show many top stars that fans usually expect at a big tournament like this. But on Saturday, many famous players played well and made the game exciting, with the lead changing several times.

Jhonattan Vegas, who led by two shots after the first two rounds, had a rough start with two bogeys. But by the halfway point, he was tied for the lead with Scheffler, Jon Rahm (a two-time major winner), and Bryson DeChambeau (the current U.S. Open champion).

In the end, Scheffler pulled ahead. His eagle on the 14th hole was a key moment. His tee shot landed just three feet from the hole. He then made birdies on the 15th, 17th, and the last hole, showing excellent putting skill.

Alex Noren started the day five shots behind the leader, Vegas. But he played very well in the last five holes, scoring four birdies. This strong finish brought him closer to the leaders.

Davis Riley and J.T. Poston were tied for third place, four shots behind Scheffler. Jon Rahm was one shot behind them, followed by Kim Si-woo from South Korea and Vegas.

Rahm said he was happy with his game. He made three birdies in a row on the back nine but lost some ground after a bogey. "I felt confident in my first two rounds, and today I played better," he said.

Vegas, who led after two rounds, almost lost his chance after the bad start. But he finished the round without any more mistakes and stayed in the hunt for his first major win.

Bryson DeChambeau began the day five shots behind but played very well without any bogeys for most of the round. He even took the lead after a birdie on the 15th hole. But then things changed quickly. He bogeyed the 16th hole and double-bogeyed the 17th when his shot landed in the water. Now he is six shots behind Scheffler, tied for eighth place.

DeChambeau said about the last holes, "It was unlucky, but it’s part of golf. Sometimes these things happen."

The third round had a slow start because of bad weather. There was a delay of almost three and a half hours. Because of this, players were sent out in groups of three from different holes, instead of the usual pairs starting from the first hole.
