The Philadelphia Flyers earned another impressive comeback win against the St. Louis Blues on Thursday night, defeating them 3-2 in overtime. Travis Sanheim became the hero of the night when he scored the winning goal with just 1:09 left in the overtime period, helping the Flyers complete a strong rally after falling behind early.
The game started well for the St. Louis Blues, thanks to Justin Faulk, who had an excellent first period. Faulk scored twice within the first 20 minutes, giving the Blues a solid 2-0 lead. His first goal came just 5:31 into the game when he fired the puck past Flyers goaltender Dan Vladar. Almost seven minutes later, Faulk scored again during a power play, making it 2-0 and giving the Blues early control of the match. This strong opening period continued Faulk’s memorable week. Earlier, he played in his 1,000th NHL regular-season game in Toronto, becoming the 137th defenseman in league history to reach that milestone. He also joined notable players from the 2010 draft class like Jeff Skinner, Cam Fowler, and Tyler Seguin.
Although the Blues started strong, things began to shift in the second period. Rodrigo Abols helped the Flyers cut the lead in half when he scored a key goal, giving Philadelphia the momentum they needed. The Flyers have been known this season for their ability to come back from difficult situations, especially against the Blues. In their previous meeting last week, the Flyers erased deficits of 1-0, 3-1, and even 5-3 before ultimately winning 6-5 in a shootout. That earlier comeback showed that the Flyers never give up, and Thursday night was no different.
In the third period, the Flyers kept pushing for the equalizer. Their hard work paid off when Tyson Foerster scored a big goal by sending the puck past St. Louis goalie Joel Hofer. That goal tied the game at 2-2 and gave the Flyers fresh energy heading into the final minutes of regulation. Hofer finished the game with 25 saves, while Vladar made 27 saves for Philadelphia after recovering well from the two early goals he allowed.
The Blues, on the other hand, have been struggling recently. After losing to the Flyers in a shootout last week, they went on to lose their next two games against the Vegas Golden Knights and the Toronto Maple Leafs. The loss against Philadelphia on Thursday marked their fourth straight defeat, showing that the team is going through a tough stretch. Despite their strong start to the game, they were unable to hold on as the Flyers slowly gained control.
As overtime began, both teams tried to end the game quickly, but it was Travis Sanheim who made the final difference. His late goal secured the Flyers’ victory and capped off another comeback performance. This marked the third time in the Flyers’ last five games that they overcame a 2-0 deficit. Their ability to stay calm and fight back has become a key part of their success this season.
For Justin Faulk, the two-goal game highlighted his recent improvement in scoring. With six goals already this season, he has surpassed his totals from previous years. Last season he scored only four goals, and the year before he had just two in 60 games. His offensive surge is a bright spot for the Blues despite the team’s recent struggles.
The Flyers, meanwhile, continue to show resilience and strong team chemistry. Their comeback spirit and ability to stay competitive even when trailing make them a dangerous team to face. The win against the Blues adds to their growing confidence as the season moves forward.
