India’s anti-terror authorities have arrested four additional suspects in connection with the deadly car explosion that rocked Delhi last week. The blast, which took place outside the city’s historic Red Fort, marked the first major terror attack in the capital in more than ten years and has triggered a large-scale investigation into the planning and execution of the incident.
The explosion, which occurred on November 10, killed ten people and left at least 32 others wounded. Emergency teams rushed to the scene, while police and investigators sealed off the area to begin collecting evidence. The blast caused widespread alarm across Delhi, a city usually secured with heavy surveillance, especially around major monuments and government buildings.
Four New Arrests
Authorities revealed that four people considered “prime accused” have now been taken into custody. They were identified as:
Dr. Muzammil Shakeel Ganai
Dr. Adeel Ahmed Rather
Mufti Irfan Ahmad Wagay, all three from the Kashmir region
Dr. Shaheen Saeed from Lucknow
Officials said the arrests followed days of searches, intelligence gathering, questioning of suspects, and examination of digital and physical evidence. These four individuals are believed to have played key roles in planning, supporting, or executing the attack.
According to investigators, the suspects were tracked through communication trails, financial movements, and possible links to networks operating outside Delhi. Security officials believe that the involvement of multiple individuals with medical or academic backgrounds signals a well-planned operation carried out by people capable of organizing logistics, travel, and execution with minimal public suspicion.
How the Attack Happened
On the evening of November 10, a vehicle packed with explosives detonated outside Red Fort, one of India’s most important historical sites and a major tourist attraction. The area is usually crowded with visitors, workers, vendors, and police.
Officials said the timing and location of the blast suggest that the attackers selected a spot where the explosion would cause the most damage and shock. Some early reports indicated that extra security had been deployed in the area due to the upcoming winter tourist season, but the attackers were still able to carry out their plan.
The explosion shattered nearby vehicles, set parts of the area on fire, and created panic among people nearby. Police and emergency responders arrived within minutes, cordoning off the entire site and transporting the injured to nearby hospitals. Investigators stayed overnight to examine fragments of the vehicle, wiring, chemical traces, and explosive residues.
Why the Attack Is Significant
Delhi has not seen a major terror blast in more than a decade. The long gap had led many to believe that the city’s security systems had become stronger and harder to breach. This incident has therefore raised serious questions, including:
How the attackers were able to bring an explosive-laden car into a high-security zone
Whether gaps in intelligence allowed the plot to go undetected
Whether more attacks could be planned
For this reason, central and local authorities have put the capital on high alert. Security posts across Delhi, especially near government buildings, tourist hotspots, and crowded public areas, are being reinforced. Surveillance systems, including CCTV networks and highway monitoring, are also being reviewed for weaknesses.
Investigation Spreads Across States
The new arrests show that the ongoing investigation is not limited to Delhi alone. Teams have already been working in multiple states, especially in northern and central India, to identify anyone who may have assisted the attackers.
Officials have also been examining links to possible external funding or ideological influence. They are analyzing whether the attack involved a small independent group or a larger network.
The involvement of suspects from Kashmir and Lucknow suggests coordination across state borders, including movement of people, material, communication equipment, and logistical arrangements. Police have also interviewed associates, family members, and professional contacts of the accused to determine whether they acted alone or with greater support.
Medical Professionals Under the Scanner
The arrests of three doctors among the four new suspects has drawn major public attention. Officials have not yet confirmed the specific roles each person played, but security sources said the suspects may have used their positions to:
Move funds discreetly
Travel without drawing suspicion
Purchase chemicals or materials that could be used to build explosives
Communicate using professional or academic platforms that attracted less monitoring
Doctors are generally trusted members of society, and the idea that professionals could secretly support a violent operation has led to concern and debate.
Families and Neighbors React
Local reports suggest that families and neighbors of the arrested individuals have been shocked by the accusations. Some said they did not notice any unusual behavior, while others mentioned that the suspects sometimes traveled for professional reasons.
However, investigators have said it is common in such cases for attackers to lead normal daily lives while planning actions that they keep hidden from most people around them. Authorities are examining bank accounts, personal devices, online communication history, and travel records to get a clearer picture of their activities.
Victims Still Recovering
Meanwhile, survivors of the blast are still receiving treatment in hospitals. Some suffered burns, fractures, and injuries from flying debris. Counseling has also been made available for witnesses and families of victims, as such incidents often leave long-term emotional trauma.
Officials have promised financial assistance to families of the deceased and medical support for the injured. Local authorities have also said that public safety remains their top priority and that all necessary steps are being taken to prevent further attacks.
Government Statement and Public Message
Authorities have described the arrests as an important step forward in the investigation but emphasized that the probe is far from over. Teams are still tracking leads, examining phone records, reviewing security footage, and attempting to identify anyone who might have helped from outside the country.
Officials have urged the public not to spread rumors, share unverified information, or panic. They also encouraged people to report suspicious activity to the police to help prevent future attacks.
What Happens Next
Over the coming days and weeks, investigators are expected to:
Present the arrested suspects before courts
Seek further custody for questioning
File detailed charges based on collected evidence
Continue tracing financial and communication links
Expand the investigation to additional locations if needed
Security analysts believe that the attack may change how major Indian cities handle public safety. More surveillance, stricter vehicle checks near major landmarks, and increased intelligence sharing between states may become standard in the future.
