Bangladesh cricket legend Mushfiqur Rahim achieved a remarkable milestone by scoring a century in his 100th Test match against Ireland at the Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium in Mirpur. The 38-year-old wicketkeeper-batter, who debuted in Test cricket in 2005, became only the 11th player in cricket history to reach this rare feat, joining greats like Colin Cowdrey, Javed Miandad, Ricky Ponting, Graeme Smith, Joe Root, and David Warner.
Rahim went to bed on 99 not out on the first day, showing his calm and patient approach. On the second day, he resumed his innings slowly, taking his time to settle in before reaching the landmark with a single. The crowd at the stadium celebrated as Rahim achieved this historic moment, becoming the first Bangladeshi cricketer to play 100 Tests and score a century in that landmark match.
The veteran showed great skill and patience throughout his innings. After Bangladesh lost three early wickets on the first day, Rahim steadied the innings. He faced 67 deliveries before hitting his first boundary, an elegant inside-out drive off Matthew Humphreys. He reached his half-century with a boundary off the first ball of the third session, demonstrating control and focus.
Rahim combined caution with calculated aggression. He swept Humphreys for four runs and also sent a short ball from legspinner Gavin Hoey to the boundary. He advanced into the nineties with careful singles and precise shot selection, delighting fans and teammates alike. His innings ended at 106 runs when he misjudged the bounce of a delivery from Humphreys, but the achievement left a lasting mark on Bangladesh cricket.
The match was made even more special for Rahim with a pre-match ceremony attended by his family and former captains Akram Khan and Habibul Bashar. His contribution was not just about personal records; it also helped Bangladesh recover from an early wobble in their innings, providing stability and confidence to the team.
Rahim’s century highlights his 20-year career built on patience, resilience, and skill. His record of being the first Bangladeshi to reach 100 Tests and score a century in that match reflects his dedication and immense contribution to Bangladesh cricket. Fans and cricket experts hailed his innings as a masterclass in temperament and consistency.
