The number of people killed by landslides in Central Java, Indonesia, has risen to 30 as rescue teams continue to search for victims. The landslides were triggered by heavy and continuous rain that hit the region over the past week.

The disaster struck two areas in Central Java: the city of Cilacap and the Banjarnegara region. Both places experienced powerful landslides that buried homes, roads, and farmland. According to the national disaster agency, 21 people are still missing and are believed to be trapped under the debris.

Banjarnegara has suffered the worst damage. On Thursday, rescue workers recovered seven more bodies, bringing the number of deaths in this area alone to 10. Eighteen people are still missing in Banjarnegara, making the rescue mission urgent and difficult. The landslides have made roads slippery and unstable, making it challenging for emergency teams to reach some of the worst-affected locations.

Continuous rain and thick mud have slowed down the rescue operations, but teams are working day and night using heavy machinery, search dogs, and manual digging to locate survivors and recover bodies. Families of missing residents have gathered in temporary shelters, waiting for updates from authorities.

Local officials have urged residents living in hilly and landslide-prone areas to move to safer locations, especially as more heavy rain is expected. Central Java experiences frequent landslides during the rainy season, but officials say that this year’s rainfall has been unusually intense.

The disaster agency continues to monitor the situation closely and provide support to survivors who have lost their homes and belongings. Emergency food, medical aid, clean water, and temporary housing are being distributed to affected communities.

The government is expected to review long-term safety measures to reduce the impact of future landslides, including better monitoring, early warning systems, and relocation plans for residents living in high-risk zones.
