The Philadelphia 76ers earned an impressive 123-114 overtime win against the Milwaukee Bucks on Thursday night, thanks to a career-high performance by Tyrese Maxey and some important late-game contributions from his teammates. Even though both teams were missing their biggest stars — Joel Embiid for the 76ers and Giannis Antetokounmpo for the Bucks — the game remained exciting and competitive until the very end.
The key moment of the night came at the start of overtime when Justin Edwards made his only three-pointer of the extra period. This long-range shot came just 40 seconds into overtime and gave the 76ers a lead they held on to for the rest of the game. Edwards had already hit several three-pointers in regulation, but this shot was the most important, helping Philadelphia gain control at the perfect time.
Edwards also made another big play in the final minute of overtime. After a missed free throw by the 76ers, he grabbed a crucial offensive rebound and kept the possession alive. This allowed Quentin Grimes to get to the free-throw line, where he made both shots and pushed Philadelphia’s lead even further. Moments later, Grimes added another big basket — a three-pointer with 1:23 remaining — that helped the 76ers stay ahead when Milwaukee was still close.
Tyrese Maxey carried the team throughout the night with an outstanding performance. He scored 54 points, the highest of his career, beating his previous best of 52 points. Maxey was reliable from everywhere on the court, making 18 of his 30 shots, including six three-pointers. He also made important free throws in overtime, scoring four from the line in the final 22.7 seconds to secure the win. In addition to scoring, Maxey contributed nine assists, five rebounds, three steals, and three blocks, showing how complete his performance was.
The game had several dramatic moments. In the fourth quarter, the Bucks took an early 83-77 lead after a short jumper from Bobby Portis. But the 76ers responded quickly, scoring 10 of the next 12 points and taking the lead. From there, the final nine minutes of regulation were very close, with six different lead changes.
In the last moments of the fourth quarter, Myles Turner hit a three-pointer to give Milwaukee a two-point lead with just over eight seconds left. However, Maxey drove to the basket, drew a foul, and calmly made both free throws with seven seconds remaining to tie the game and send it into overtime. Milwaukee had one last chance to win in regulation, but Ryan Rollins missed the final shot at the buzzer.
Rollins had a strong game for the Bucks, finishing with 32 points, 14 assists, and six rebounds. He was Milwaukee’s main scorer throughout the night. The Bucks also got a double-double from Myles Turner, who scored 14 points and grabbed 10 rebounds. Bobby Portis contributed 19 points, Kyle Kuzma added 17, and Gary Trent Jr. finished with 11. Still, the team fell short and suffered their third consecutive loss.
For the 76ers, Paul George played only his second game of the season but still managed to score 21 points in just 25 minutes. Quentin Grimes also made an impact off the bench with 14 points, and VJ Edgecombe recorded a double-double with 12 points and a team-high 10 rebounds.
With this win, the 76ers improved to 2-0 in overtime games this season. Despite missing their superstar Joel Embiid, they showed strong teamwork, smart decision-making, and excellent shooting late in the game. Maxey’s extraordinary night and the clutch plays by Edwards and Grimes helped Philadelphia secure a memorable victory on the road.
