Overnight drone attacks by Russia caused damage in Kyiv and Sumy, according to Ukrainian officials. The Ukrainian military reported on Monday that it managed to shoot down 61 out of the 83 drones fired by Russia, with an additional 22 likely brought down by electronic warfare systems. Despite the extensive attacks, no injuries were reported in Kyiv, though a fire broke out at a non-residential building in the city.

In Sumy, however, the situation was more severe. A 38-year-old woman was hospitalized after the drones hit the northeastern Ukrainian city. The attack also caused significant damage to several houses, with five homes reported as affected. The governor of the Sumy region, Ihor Kalchenko, confirmed the incident through a post on the Telegram messaging app.
Emergency service photos from the site depicted cars burning near a high-rise building with broken windows. More than 300 windows were reportedly shattered, and around 65 residents had to be evacuated from their damaged homes to ensure their safety.
The attack marks another chapter in the ongoing conflict between Russia and Ukraine, which began with Russia's full-scale invasion in February 2022. Both sides maintain they do not intentionally target civilians, but thousands of civilian deaths have occurred, most of which have been Ukrainian citizens. No official response from Russia was provided in relation to this recent attack.
As the war continues, the Ukrainian government urges its citizens to stay vigilant and continue supporting efforts to defend against further assaults.
