Eng. Ibrahim bin Muhammad Al-Sultan, the Minister of State and CEO of the Royal Commission for Riyadh City (RCRC), thanked King Salman bin Abdulaziz and Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman for opening the Riyadh Metro project.
He said Riyadh will benefit a lot from this new metro, which will change how people travel around the city. The metro has six lines, and it will start running slowly over time. Eng. Al-Sultan explained that the project, led by RCRC, will give Riyadh an easy and modern public transport system, which will help with the city’s growing population and reduce the use of private cars.

To plan the metro, RCRC looked at many important things. They studied traffic on main roads, where people travel to, and made sure the metro can handle many passengers. They also made sure the travel time on public transport would be quick and easy.
The goal of the project is to cut down on traffic, save fuel, and reduce pollution. Eng. Al-Sultan shared that the Riyadh Metro is the biggest project of its kind, with 176 kilometers of track and 85 stations. It is made to meet the needs of the city and help it grow. The metro will give people new ways to travel and reduce their reliance on cars.
The project will also make Riyadh a better place to live by creating walkable areas around metro stations, with easy access to important places like shopping malls and tourist spots. Eng. Al-Sultan added that the metro will also help make the city greener by cutting down on car pollution and using energy-saving technologies in trains, stations, and buildings. This supports the goals of Saudi Arabia’s Vision 2030.
Finally, Eng. Al-Sultan thanked the people of Riyadh for their patience during the construction of the metro and for dealing with traffic issues. He also thanked the partners who helped with the project and the teams who worked hard to make the metro a reality.
