What Is A Codeshare Agreement?

A codeshare agreement is when two airlines agree to sell seats on each other's flights. This means that people can buy a ticket from Kenya Airways but fly on a Qatar Airways plane or vice versa. It helps passengers travel to more places easily using just one ticket.

What Does This Partnership Include?

More Flights Between Doha And Nairobi

Qatar Airways will start a third daily flight between Doha and Nairobi. This means there will be three flights every day between these two cities. These flights will be under a codeshare with Kenya Airways, and passengers can book them in the coming days.

New Flights Between Mombasa And Doha

Kenya Airways will also start flights between Mombasa, which is another city in Kenya, and Doha. These flights will be operated by Kenya Airways but will be marketed by Qatar Airways. They will start in the winter season later this year.

Codeshare On Other Routes

Both airlines will also codeshare on other routes in their networks. This will give passengers more choices and easy connections to many destinations around the world.

What Will They Do Other Than Flights?

Apart from flights, Qatar Airways and Kenya Airways will also work together in many other parts of their business. These include:

  • Cargo business: They will help each other to send goods and parcels faster and easier.

  • Airport and ground services: They will work together to provide better services at airports for passengers.

  • Product development: They will create better products for their customers like improved seats and services.

  • Loyalty programmes: People who are members of their frequent flyer programmes will get better benefits when they travel with these airlines.

  • Procurement: They will buy goods and services together to save money.

  • Maintenance, repair, and overhaul: They will also support each other to repair and maintain their aircraft.

Why Is This Partnership Important?

Statement From Qatar Airways CEO

Badr Mohammed Al-Meer, the CEO of Qatar Airways, said this partnership shows that Qatar Airways wants to build strong relationships with African countries. He said that this agreement is very special because Qatar Airways has been flying to Kenya for 20 years now.

He added that Qatar Airways is also working with other African airlines, like Airlink, to improve air travel in Africa. According to him, this partnership will help the aviation sector and economy in Africa to grow faster.

Statement From Kenya Airways CEO

Allan Kilavuka, the CEO of Kenya Airways, also shared his views. He said that this partnership is part of their turnaround strategy, which means they are trying to improve their airline business. This strategy has helped Kenya Airways make a profit this year after more than 10 years of losses.

He said that this collaboration with Qatar Airways will help Kenya Airways to increase tourism in Kenya. More tourists will come to visit Kenya because of better flight connections. It will also help in sending more air cargo from Kenya to other countries, which is good for Kenya’s economy and trade.

Recognition For Kenya Airways

Kenya Airways has been doing very well in recent years. For the fourth year in a row, it has been named Africa’s Leading Airline and Business Class by the World Travel Awards 2025. This shows that many people trust and like to fly with Kenya Airways.

What Does This Partnership Mean For Passengers?

  • Passengers will get more choices of flights between Kenya and Qatar.

  • They will enjoy better services on both airlines.

  • They can travel to more destinations easily with one ticket.

  • Members of loyalty programmes of both airlines will get extra benefits.

  • The flights between Mombasa and Doha will help people in coastal Kenya to travel easily to Qatar and other countries.

A Win-Win For Both Airlines And Their Countries

This partnership between Qatar Airways and Kenya Airways is a very big step for both airlines. It will help them grow their business and provide better services to their passengers. It will also help in improving the economy of Kenya by increasing tourism and trade. Qatar Airways will also strengthen its network in Africa through this deal.

Both airlines are excited to work together and bring the best travel experience to people from all over the world. This partnership is a sign that when airlines work together, they can achieve great things for their customers and countries.
