OpenAI's CEO, Sam Altman, said on Monday that the company has no plans to take legal action against a Chinese company called DeepSeek. DeepSeek has recently caught attention in Silicon Valley with its powerful and affordable chatbot, which some say looks similar to OpenAI’s technology.

Altman shared this information while in Tokyo, explaining that OpenAI is more focused on creating great products rather than suing competitors. He also said that OpenAI will keep improving its models and continue to lead the field. “We’re not planning to sue DeepSeek. We’ll just keep making better products and stay ahead in the industry,” Altman said.
He also mentioned that DeepSeek's model is impressive, but OpenAI believes it can continue to improve and stay ahead of the competition. "It’s great to have more competition. We’ve faced many others before, and it’s good for everyone to keep improving," he added.
DeepSeek has been accused of copying ideas from other companies, including OpenAI’s. The method used by DeepSeek is called "distillation," which is when smaller models learn from bigger ones. This has raised concerns because some people believe it might not be fair to copy others’ work.
At the same time, OpenAI is facing its own issues. The company has been accused of using protected content when creating its own models, which has led to a lot of discussions about the rules and fairness in this field.
Despite all these challenges, Altman believes that OpenAI will continue to grow and lead in the AI industry.
