In Newfoundland and Labrador, a 52-year-old man has been charged with first-degree murder after a woman was discovered deceased in Grand Falls-Windsor.
The individual in question, Ivan Loder from Badger, appeared in a virtual court hearing and has been placed in custody. A subsequent court date is anticipated as proceedings advance.
According to police reports, officers responded to an emergency call from a residence in the Crescent Heights neighborhood around 4:45 a.m. on April 10, 2026. Emergency services found a woman dead upon arrival, with authorities later confirming prior acquaintance between her and the accused.
The Royal Canadian Mounted Police are actively investigating the matter, collaborating with the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner to ascertain the cause of death and collect further evidence.
Earlier, residents had been advised to stay clear of the area during the ongoing response, although this directive was lifted later that day once the situation was deemed safe.
This incident follows another serious occurrence in the town within the same week, involving a shooting that resulted in one fatality and another individual hospitalized. Authorities have clarified that the two events are unrelated and are under separate investigations.
Additional details about the victim have not been disclosed. The investigation remains active, as police continue to scrutinize the case's circumstances.
