MS Dhoni Scores 16 From 17 Balls Against Rajasthan Royals, Explains His Batting Approach
In the IPL 2025 match between Chennai Super Kings (CSK) and Rajasthan Royals (RR), MS Dhoni scored only 16 runs from 17 balls. Many fans were disappointed with his slow batting, especially during a time when the team needed quick runs.

The match took place on Tuesday. CSK’s batting was weak again. The top-order players could not make use of the powerplay. Young players like Dewald Brevis and Ayush Mhatre played some good short innings, but senior players such as Ravindra Jadeja and Devon Conway failed to perform.
When Dhoni came to bat, fans hoped he would lead the team with his experience. However, he too struggled under pressure and managed just 16 runs, hitting only one six before getting out. CSK ended their innings at 187/8.

After the match, Dhoni explained why he batted the way he did. He said the lower-middle order was under pressure because the team had already lost many wickets early. That made it difficult to play aggressive shots.

Dhoni said, “We had a good number of runs on the board, but the number of wickets lost added pressure. Brevis played well and took some chances. I think our run-rate was fine, but we lost one or two extra wickets which made it tough.”

With CSK likely to finish last in the 10-team points table, Dhoni called for more consistency from the batters. He believes young players must learn to stay confident and perform regularly if they want to grow.

“You need to be consistent, especially when aiming for a high strike rate. The young players must believe in themselves. It's important to stay grounded, just like in your first season,” Dhoni added.
