Mohammed bin Rashid meets Colombian President at World Governments Summit 2025 in Dubai

Dubai is hosting the World Governments Summit (WGS) 2025, a major global event focused on shaping the future of governance. As part of the summit, His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, met with the President of Colombia, Gustavo Petro Urrego, on the first day of the event.

Sheikh Mohammed warmly welcomed President Urrego and expressed his appreciation for Colombia’s participation in the summit. The Colombian President is scheduled to give a keynote speech on the second day of the event.

The meeting was attended by several high-ranking UAE officials, including:

His Highness Sheikh Maktoum bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, First Deputy Ruler of Dubai, Deputy Prime Minister, and Minister of Finance of the UAE.
His Highness Sheikh Ahmed bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Second Deputy Ruler of Dubai and Chairman of Dubai Media Council.
His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum.
His Excellency Mohammad bin Abdullah Al Gergawi, Minister of Cabinet Affairs and Chairman of the World Governments Summit Organisation.
Her Excellency Reem bint Ebrahim Al Hashimy, Minister of State for International Cooperation.
During their discussion, Sheikh Mohammed and President Urrego talked about ways to strengthen the relationship between the UAE and Colombia. They explored how both countries can work together in different sectors to achieve mutual growth.

Sheikh Mohammed emphasized the importance of global partnerships and cooperation between nations. He highlighted that strong international relations help governments build better strategies for handling global challenges. He also said that working together can lead to sustainable growth and a better future for people around the world.

He further noted that the World Governments Summit provides a valuable platform for leaders to exchange ideas, discuss important global issues, and find new opportunities to improve governance and public welfare.

President Urrego praised the close ties between Colombia and the UAE. He also spoke about the importance of international collaboration in tackling economic challenges and development goals. He appreciated the World Governments Summit for bringing world leaders together to shape the future of governance.

This year’s WGS is a large-scale event, with over 30 heads of state and government participating. The summit has gathered representatives from more than 80 international and regional organizations, as well as delegations from 140 governments.

The event features 21 global forums focusing on key trends and changes shaping the future. It includes over 200 interactive sessions with more than 300 speakers, including world leaders, ministers, and experts. In addition, there are more than 30 ministerial meetings and roundtables, with over 400 ministers in attendance.

Throughout the summit, 30 strategic reports will be released in partnership with leading international research and policy organizations. These reports will provide valuable insights into important global topics, helping governments plan for the future.

The World Governments Summit 2025 runs until February 13 at the Dubai World Trade Centre.
