Microsoft and TikTok haven't made any official statements yet about the deal. If the deal happens, Microsoft would buy TikTok’s US business. TikTok is owned by ByteDance, a company from China. Some US officials are worried China might misuse people's data.
Trump has already said he is talking to many companies about buying TikTok. He plans to make a decision in 30 days. He also said that whoever buys TikTok must protect the data of US users.
TikTok has 170 million users in the US and is one of the most used apps. But US officials are worried about TikTok because it is owned by a Chinese company. A law was going to make ByteDance sell TikTok or face a ban, starting on January 19. This law was made because officials were worried about how TikTok could misuse data.
Before the law took effect, TikTok was removed from app stores in the US. After Trump became president, he signed an order to delay the law for 75 days. This gave more time to figure out what to do. Trump wants to make sure TikTok is safe for US users.
Even though Microsoft and TikTok have not said anything official, if this deal happens, it could change how social media works, especially when it comes to protecting people's data.
