The Saudi Ministry of Interior shared some big news on Sunday. Since it first started, the Mecca Route Initiative has helped over one million pilgrims make their journey to Mecca. This special program is now in its seventh year and is part of Saudi Arabia’s efforts to make Hajj easier and more organized for people from around the world.
The initiative is a team effort. Many important government departments work together to run it smoothly. These include the Ministries of Foreign Affairs, Health, Hajj and Umrah, and Media. Other groups also play a big part, like the Saudi Data and AI Authority (SDAIA), the Zakat, Tax and Customs Authority, the General Authority for Awqaf, the Pilgrim Experience Programme, and the General Directorate of Passports.
This program is part of Saudi Vision 2030, a big plan to improve many areas of the country. One of its goals is to make the Hajj process faster, safer, and more comfortable for everyone. The Mecca Route Initiative does this by helping pilgrims before they even leave their home country.

Right now, the program is running at 11 airports in seven countries: Malaysia, Indonesia, Pakistan, Bangladesh, Morocco, Türkiye, and Côte d'Ivoire. At these airports, special services are provided to make travel much easier. Pilgrims can give their fingerprint and photo (biometric data), get their Hajj visas, and have their passports checked all in one place. Health safety rules are also carefully followed during this time.
Even luggage is well taken care of. Each bag is tagged based on the pilgrim’s hotel and transportation in Saudi Arabia. When pilgrims land in Mecca or Medina, they don’t need to wait or figure things out—they are taken straight to their place of stay.
The whole process is led by helpful Saudi teams who speak different languages to support people from many cultures. Modern technology is also used to keep everything running smoothly.
The main goal of the Mecca Route Initiative is to make sure every pilgrim has a smooth, safe, and meaningful journey during their sacred trip to Hajj.
