A new group of public buses has started running in the busy port city of Jeddah, Saudi Arabia. These buses include electric vehicles that are better for the environment. New routes have also been added so that more parts of the city can be reached.
This step is part of a bigger plan to make traveling easier and more comfortable for both residents and visitors. It also aims to reduce traffic jams, protect the environment, and improve the quality of life in Jeddah, which is home to around 3.7 million people.
Right now, the bus system has 76 buses running on 14 different routes with 91 stops across the city. These stops have been carefully planned to cover many crowded neighborhoods and to help meet the daily travel needs of people living in the city.

According to Okaz newspaper, this public transport project is not only built for today’s needs but is also designed for the future of Jeddah. The city is an important business center and also has the King Abdulaziz International Airport, which welcomes hundreds of thousands of Muslim pilgrims every year who are going to Mecca for Hajj or Umrah.
The public transport program has been designed using ideas from some of the most developed cities in the world. The goal is to provide a modern, clean, and well-connected transport system for everyone in the city.
This is not the first time Saudi Arabia has taken steps toward green transportation. In December, the country launched its first hydrogen-powered bus. It was a big achievement in the journey to use cleaner and smarter transport.
Saudi Arabia’s transport authorities have also introduced other eco-friendly projects. These include self-driving buses, electric cars for rent, and the first hydrogen and electric trucks to carry goods across the kingdom.
In 2023, the country even tested hydrogen-powered trains in Riyadh, the capital. These trains are special because they don’t release harmful gases into the air and are good for the environment.
All these steps show that Saudi Arabia is working hard to build a cleaner and better transport system for today and the future.
