Khalifa University of Science and Technology, also known as Khalifa University, has announced its role as host for the 36th edition of the IEEE/RSJ International Conference on Intelligent Robots and Systems (IROS 2024) in Abu Dhabi. This marks the conference's inaugural venture into the MENA region, scheduled to take place from October 14-18, 2024, at the ADNEC Centre Abu Dhabi. The event promises to draw a global gathering of researchers, academics, industry leaders, and professionals in robotics.

IROS is recognized as one of the foremost annual conferences in robotics research worldwide, facilitating extensive knowledge exchange and discussions on advancements in intelligent robots and smart technologies. Under the theme "Robotics for Sustainable Development," the conference will showcase Khalifa University's innovations in robotics and provide a platform for presenting cutting-edge research initiatives.

Dr. Arif Sultan Al Hammadi, General Co-Chair of IROS 2024, expressed Khalifa University's pride in hosting this prestigious event, emphasizing its role in fostering collaboration, innovation, and showcasing the UAE's advancements in robotics and intelligent systems. The conference is supported by prominent organizations including the IEEE Robotics and Automation Society, Abu Dhabi Convention and Exhibition Bureau, and several international robotics societies.

Highlighting the global interest in IROS 2024, the organizing committee has received a record 3,753 submissions from 60 countries, underscoring the conference's significance in the robotics community. The UAE has contributed significantly with 68 papers, leading in the Arab region alongside major submissions from China, the US, Germany, and Japan.

The conference agenda features nine global-level competitions focusing on diverse aspects of robotics and AI, an extensive IROS Expo showcasing the latest technologies, and an exclusive Career Fair. Attendees from sectors including manufacturing, healthcare, logistics, and defense will participate in poster sessions, keynote speeches, and networking events. Over 60% of attendees boast over six years of experience in robotics, reflecting the conference's appeal to seasoned professionals and newcomers alike.

Khalifa University's Center for Robotics and Autonomous Systems (KU-CARS) plays a pivotal role in driving innovation, boasting state-of-the-art facilities and a vibrant research environment. With around 50 researchers dedicated to robotics and autonomous systems, Khalifa University aims to solidify the UAE's reputation as a global innovation hub through IROS 2024, fostering collaboration and exploring new business opportunities in the country's dynamic innovation ecosystem.
