Iran Rejects U.S. Criticism Over Nuclear Program Talks

Iran’s top leader, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, recently spoke out against the United States for criticizing Iran’s nuclear program. He said that Iran does not need permission from the U.S. to make progress in its nuclear work, especially when it comes to enriching uranium — a key part of making nuclear fuel.

“They say, ‘We won’t allow Iran to enrich uranium,’” Khamenei said during a public speech at a memorial service for Iran’s late president, Ebrahim Raisi, who died in a helicopter crash last year. “That’s completely wrong. No one in Iran is waiting for their permission. The Islamic Republic has its own plans and will continue to follow them.”

Khamenei’s speech comes at a time when Iran and the United States are involved in indirect talks. These talks are not face-to-face and are being carried out through other countries or channels. But Khamenei doesn’t seem hopeful that the discussions will lead to anything important.

“Yes, indirect negotiations happened during President Raisi’s time too, just like now,” he said. “But nothing came out of them, and we don’t expect much from the current ones either. Who knows what might happen?”

Iran’s Foreign Ministry spokesman, Esmaeil Baghaei, also spoke to Iran’s official news agency, IRNA. He said that no final decision has been made about whether there will be another round of negotiations. He added that Iran is still thinking about what to do because the U.S. keeps changing its mind and sending mixed messages.

In short, Iran’s leaders are standing firm on their nuclear plans and are not waiting for approval from the United States. They also seem unsure if future talks with the U.S. will bring any real progress.
