A 22-year-old Indian citizen, wanted for murder in his home country, has been arrested by border officers in the United States after he was stopped from entering Canada. The arrest took place on November 16 at the Peace Bridge border crossing in Buffalo, New York.

How the Arrest Happened

The man, identified as Vishat Kumar, attempted to travel from the United States into Canada. When he reached the border, Canadian authorities did not allow him to enter the country. He was then sent back to the US side of the border for further checks.

US Customs and Border Protection officers began a detailed inspection after finding inconsistencies in his documents. During this secondary inspection, officers realized that Kumar was hiding his real identity. His passport and information did not match what he told officials.

Identity Confirmed by Biometric Scan

To confirm who he really was, officers used biometric technology. The scan revealed that Kumar had entered the US illegally in 2024 and had used a false name and a wrong date of birth. He had also missed his scheduled asylum interview in the United States.

Once the system confirmed his fingerprints and identity, officers discovered that he was wanted in India for murder and had an Interpol Red Notice issued against him. An Interpol Red Notice signals that a person is being actively sought by a country for a major criminal charge. This allowed US authorities to immediately detain him.

Transferred to Immigration Enforcement Officers

After the identity check and confirmation of the international alert, Kumar was taken into custody. He was processed at the border and handed over to Immigration and Customs Enforcement for further legal action.

He is now being held at the Federal Detention Facility in Batavia, New York. According to officials, he will remain there while removal proceedings move forward. These proceedings will determine when and how he will be deported from the United States.

Officials Emphasize Importance of Border Checks

A senior US border officer stated that this arrest shows how important border inspections are for national safety. Officers work closely with international partners, including foreign police and global systems, to identify people wanted for serious crimes.

The officer said that the use of biometric technology helped expose the suspect’s true identity and prevented him from continuing travel under a false name. Officials added that this case shows how officers at land borders play a key role in protecting the country while helping international justice systems work together.

Why Kumar Is Wanted in India

Authorities revealed that Vishat Kumar is wanted in India for a murder case. Specific details of the crime were not released, but the charges were serious enough for Indian law enforcement to request international assistance. The Interpol Red Notice meant that countries around the world were alerted to stop him if he tried to cross borders.

How He Entered the United States

Investigators found that Kumar had used illegal methods to enter the United States in 2024. After arriving, he applied for asylum but did not attend his scheduled interview, which already put him under the attention of immigration authorities. By using a false identity, he avoided being detected until he attempted to cross into Canada.

What Happens Next

Kumar is now waiting for the next step in the US immigration legal process. If the removal proceedings continue as expected, he may be deported back to India, where he would face the murder charges against him. Until then, he will remain in federal custody.

US officers have said that this case highlights the importance of close cooperation between countries when dealing with transnational crime. The use of electronic identity systems and biometric tools has become essential in tracking individuals who attempt to cross borders while evading the law.

A Case That Shows Global Cooperation

The incident at the Peace Bridge in Buffalo is an example of how criminal investigations and border security efforts now extend beyond a single nation. When a person wanted in one country tries to escape to another, global systems allow officers to identify them, even if they change their name or carry false documents.

In this case, cooperation between US border officers, immigration enforcement agencies, and international crime databases worked together to uncover Vishat Kumar’s real identity and legal status. The arrest closed a gap that might have allowed a murder suspect to move freely between countries
