Shares of Billionbrains Garage Ventures Ltd., the parent company of the trading platform Groww, fell sharply for the second consecutive day on Thursday, November 20. The stock declined by 8%, extending losses after hitting a 10% lower circuit on Wednesday. From Tuesday’s intraday high of ₹193, the stock has lost nearly 18% in value.
Trading Restrictions and Volume Surge
Earlier this week, the price band for Groww shares was revised from 20% to 10%, reflecting the growing volatility post-listing. Despite the lower circuits, trading activity has been unusually high. On Tuesday alone, over 46 crore shares changed hands, but only 8.24 crore shares were marked for delivery.
A significant factor driving this turbulence was the auction of 30 lakh shares at NSE, pushed into the system as traders who had shorted Groww could not arrange for delivery. The restricted trading on Wednesday amounted to ₹2,521 crore.
Pending Orders and Upcoming Triggers
As of Thursday, pending sell orders stood at 1.65 crore shares, while no pending buy orders were reported, highlighting the pressure on the stock. Investors now look toward Friday, November 21, when Groww is set to release its first quarterly results post-IPO. Another key date is December 10, when the one-month shareholder lock-in period ends, allowing 149.2 million shares (around 2% of total equity) to be traded.
Current Market Standing
At Thursday’s close, Groww shares were trading 6.4% lower at ₹158.99, reflecting the combined effect of profit-booking post-IPO and anticipation ahead of results and lock-in expiry. Market watchers suggest that this post-listing volatility is typical for high-profile IPOs, especially in fast-growing fintech companies.
