On Tuesday, IBM took a step to grow its business in the crowded world of artificial intelligence (AI). The company introduced new tools that can help customers manage a group of AI agents for important tasks in their business.
In an interview, IBM’s CEO, Arvind Krishna, shared that the company saw an opportunity to create software that helps businesses use AI agents from different companies, like Salesforce, Workday, and Adobe. This software would also let businesses create their own AI agents for tasks that have not been explored yet, with IBM’s help.

Krishna said, “We help our clients integrate. We want to meet them where they are.” This was said just before IBM’s annual Think conference, where the company was set to present more details.
The tools that IBM offers will allow businesses to create their own AI agents in just under five minutes. These tools use the IBM Granite family of AI models, as well as other models from companies like Meta Platforms and Mistral, Krishna explained.
Krishna believes that businesses will want to use different AI models for different tasks, which will create more demand for IBM’s services. Last month, IBM reported that it had already made $6 billion in business from ChatGPT-like AI tools. While IBM is a smaller cloud provider compared to Amazon Web Services and Microsoft, it has customized its technology for businesses that want to use multiple clouds or manage their own data.
Krishna said that these new tools will help IBM grow even faster. "All of these capabilities will only speed up that rate of growth," he added.
In addition to the AI news, IBM made another big announcement earlier this year. In April, the company shared that it plans to invest $150 billion in the United States over the next five years. IBM has been making mainframe computers in the U.S. for more than 60 years and plans to also make quantum computers there in the future.
Krishna mentioned that with IBM’s focus on mainframe technology, AI, and quantum computing, there will be a strong market for these areas, making it a smart choice for IBM to invest. He also pointed out that the growth of technology and fewer government regulations from the time of President Donald Trump will help the economy grow.
In summary, IBM is working to make it easier for businesses to manage and create their own AI agents, aiming to grow its business in the competitive AI field while also investing heavily in U.S. technology for the future.
