Under the direction of His Highness Sheikh Ahmed bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Second Deputy Ruler of Dubai and Chairman of the Dubai Media Council, the Hatta Winter initiative has officially launched. This unique initiative, part of the broader #DubaiDestinations campaign, invites residents and visitors to explore Hatta's beauty and activities during the cooler months, running from December 13, 2024, to January 22, 2025. Organized by the Supreme Committee to Oversee the Development of Hatta and implemented by Brand Dubai, this initiative highlights Hatta's potential as a top winter destination while promoting sustainable tourism and supporting local businesses.
A Diverse Array of Events
The Hatta Winter initiative will span over 40 days, offering five exciting festivals, each designed to showcase Hatta’s cultural richness, natural beauty, and thriving entrepreneurial spirit. The festivals, in partnership with key agencies such as RTA, Dubai Municipality, Dubai Culture, Dubai Sports Council, and the Dubai Department of Economy and Tourism (DET), include the Hatta Winter Festival, Hatta Cultural Nights, Hatta Honey Festival, Hatta Agricultural Festival, and Hatta x DSF. These events will feature activities ranging from cultural performances and sports events to food festivals and family-friendly experiences.

Showcasing Hatta’s Charm and Entrepreneurial Spirit
Her Excellency Mona Ghanem Al Marri, Vice Chairperson and Managing Director of the Dubai Media Council, emphasized that Hatta Winter aims to position Hatta as a prominent winter destination while highlighting the region’s commitment to supporting sustainable tourism. "With its breathtaking mountain landscapes, diverse wildlife, and rich cultural heritage, Hatta is an ideal destination for those seeking natural beauty and authentic local experiences," she said. The initiative also creates valuable opportunities for entrepreneurs, especially those in small and emerging businesses, with events designed to boost engagement and expand their reach.
The first edition of Hatta Winter attracted over 500,000 visitors in just two weeks, prompting the extension of this year’s festivities to a full month. Al-Marri also noted that this campaign aligns with the Dubai 2040 Urban Master Plan, further solidifying Hatta's growing role in Dubai’s social and economic development.
Festivals Celebrating Hatta’s Traditions
One of the key components of the Hatta Winter initiative is the Hatta Winter Festival, held at the picturesque Leem Lake, nestled in the Hatta mountains. This festival will feature live entertainment, recreational activities, and cultural programs, showcasing local talent and traditions. Shaima Al Suwaidi, Director of Brand Dubai, highlighted the focus on promoting local businesses, particularly through the Proudly from Dubai network. The festival will present 30 entrepreneurial projects, many from Hatta, fostering local talent and entrepreneurship.
The Hatta Honey Festival, running from December 27-31, 2024, will feature 51 Emirati beekeepers showcasing their products and sharing expertise in honey production. This event supports local beekeepers and promotes sustainable practices. In January 2025, the Hatta Agricultural Festival will celebrate Emirati farmers and their contributions to the agricultural sector with 25 booths for local farmers and five accompanying activities designed to empower the farming community.
Cultural and Sports Events
The Hatta Cultural Nights, presented by Dubai Culture, will showcase Hatta’s heritage and cultural significance. With performances, art installations, and local crafts, this festival highlights the region’s deep connection to its traditions. Another highlight is the Hatta x DSF event, a collaboration with the Dubai Shopping Festival, featuring outdoor adventure activities like mountain biking, zip-lining, and kayaking. Visitors can enjoy live music, fireworks, and seasonal beverages while soaking in Hatta’s natural beauty.
Sports enthusiasts will also find plenty to do during Hatta Winter, thanks to the efforts of the Dubai Sports Council. With an emphasis on outdoor activities, the council has introduced mountain biking, hiking, and cycling races, along with stand-up paddleboarding and obstacle courses. These events cater to participants of all skill levels, further boosting Hatta’s profile as a sports tourism hub.
Transportation and Logistics
The Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) has played a crucial role in ensuring smooth transportation for visitors. With 29 daily trips and 1,100 parking spaces allocated for the festival, RTA has implemented efficient mobility solutions to enhance the visitor experience. Additionally, the authority’s internal buses will transport visitors to event sites and scenic locations such as Hatta Dam, further improving access to this stunning destination.
Looking Ahead: Expanding Hatta’s Global Appeal
This year’s extended Hatta Winter event is expected to attract even more visitors from around the world, as the region continues to enhance its infrastructure and tourism offerings. By fostering community development, supporting local entrepreneurs, and promoting sustainable tourism, Hatta is firmly establishing itself as a must-visit winter destination. The collaboration among government, private sector partners, and local communities exemplifies Dubai’s commitment to building a thriving, inclusive tourism sector.
As Hatta's reputation as a winter haven grows, the Hatta Winter initiative stands as a testament to the UAE's vision for promoting sustainable tourism while supporting its local businesses and communities.
